Cold/flu bug - what can I take?

Incoming down with a big that my eldest is just starting to recover from. It's like a really bad cold, fuzzy head, achy muscles, snotty, bad (but productive) cough.

I'm 18 weeks pregnant. What might give me some relief? Everything I look at just says check with your doctor Confused I really don't want to see a bloody doctor right now!

Please share your tips!

Paracetamol
Steam inhalation
Albas oil on your pillow
Plenty of fluids
Rest
Think that was about it for me over Christmas when I came down with a similar bug. Prepare to feel rotten for a bit so if you can rest up at all that probably helped me the most (but I don't have any dc to have to look after so was easier to achieve!)

paracetamol
No decongestents I'm afraid :(
sweetly like cough sweets like Lockets/Halls but not Stepsils unless you check with a doctor
Vicks or Olbas oil

Thanks - I wasn't sure about Vicks or Olbas Oil so that's good news. And the throat sweets are a great idea.

Urgh. It's horrible watching someone else be poorly and knowing you're about to get it Hmm

I have a bad bug now and my consultant told me the following is ok:

  1. Paracetamol 1000mg up to 4 times a day (I find this way too much and only take 500mg 3 times)
  2. cough sirup from Boots with lemon and honey (tastes awesome)
  3. Strepsils are fine
  4. Vicks Vapo Rub on chest before bed

I also do inhalations with sage, lots of tea or hot water with lemon and honey and obviously lots of rest. My doc explained it takes much longer to recover from a cold when you're pregnant, may take upto 2 weeks. Get well soon!

Make up some honey & lemon with hot water and add a couple paracetamol. I've been told 4x paracetamol are perfectly fine per day, my midwife even told me to get Co codamount on prescription but I never did...

I didn't think we could use Olbas Oil? I read somewhere that it makes your uterus contract.
I had a bad cold over Christmas and I used paracetamol, steams, orange juice and a lot of sleep. Hope you feel better soon!
