Hi Everyone,

I know not many people have scans so early on in pregnancy, I founds out nearly 3 weeks ago I was pregnant. I thought I was 6 weeks 3 days. I had a miscarriage in July this year, so my partner and i paid to have an early scan. The said everything is in the right place and we saw the heart beating.

the sonagrapher told me that the embryo measured 3.5mm and i was more like 5 weeks 4 days. but everything i have read says that that heard doesn't usually start beating till about 6 weeks.

I just wanted to know if 3.5mm is right for 5 weeks 4 days or could i actually be 6 weeks 4 days now and it just be small?

I remember with my son (1st pregnancy 2010) that again i thought i was 6 and half weeks and we saw the heart beat, but they told me i was only 5 and half weeks, but then at my 12 weeks scan they told me i was 13 weeks, which would have made me 6 and half weeks when i had the first scan.

sorry for such a long essay, im just over worrying, i really want this baby, i dnt want thing to go wrong.

Many thanks

I can't help much but I measured 1.8 last week and that was classed as 7 weeks exactly.

Not 1.8, ignore that.

Rebecca, at this early stage measurements can be out, so try not to worry about measuring slightly small for dates. I think it's brilliant that they saw a heart beat. I had a scan at about your gestation in my failed pregnancy and they couldn't see a heart beat but didn't really expect to.

I would be really pleased and if you can afford it maybe have another scan around the 9 week mark. The measurements should be more accurate then.

I had a scan at 5w5d and measured about 2mm lol it was a spec. Then at 7w4d I measured 9mm so the baby grows sooo fast!

Hi, I had an early scan - measured 3.3mm and they said 5wks4d, but also saw the heartbeat so I had the same thoughts as you. Fast forward to the 12week scan and it turned out I was a week ahead so had actually been 6wks4days. Early scan dating is quite unreliable I think - best just to wait till 12weeks for a more certain due date.

I had a scan at what I thought was 8+6, turns out I was 7+6.

Heartbeat and baby moving all over the place.

I had ovulated late (which I thought may be the case)

I had an emergency scan because of bleeding at what I thought was about 6+3 and they measured a few times and got 3.6 or 3.8, and could see a really clear heartbeat, but the doctor said that was probably about right if my cycle is slightly long or uneven (it is), as a day or two makes a huge difference at that stage.
