First trimester - not managing ANY exercise. Feeling v guilty :-(

Anyone else not managing any exercise at all??

Before I got pregnant (DC2 - currently 7 weeks pregnant) I was trying and usually succeeding in going to the gym twice a week for an hour. I am no gym bunny by any means - a big curvy size 14 who never really lost her baby belly from DC1 two years ago.

Since I got my BFP 3 weeks ago I have not been ONCE.

I work 4 days per week in Central London, commuting in from the suburbs by train after dropping off 2yo ds1 at nursery. I do both nursery drop off and pick up every day cos DH works long hours. My job is stressful. But desk based so I am sat down all day.

I am bloody exhausted and nauseous all the time and I cannot bear the idea of working out . But I can feel the weight piling on already cos the only thing that staves off the nausea is snacking on white carbs: bread, toast, crackers, crisps etc etc.

I look about 6 months gone already but it's just bloating and belly weight and my previous baby body sliding downhill now all exercise has stopped :-(

Anyone else feel like this? When I feel a bit better in 2nd trimester can I go back to the gym then?? Or will it be a shock to the baby? Should I drag myself there now even though I just wanna eat toast on the sofa and go to bed at 8pm??

Bleeeeeeeeeeeee.

Oh my god. Sounds just like me. I haven't been since I found out in September and I have put on 10lbs and constantly hungry.

I'm 15 weeks and still haven't been. Despite my gym having a crèche I just can't muster up the energy inbetween work, housework, looking after my son........
Please don't feel bad you are not alone. Good luck with your pregnancy xx

Me 2! This is my first. I'm not a gym bunny but was walking several times a week.

I was so exhausted and nauseous/sick
I'm 13 weeks and still need to take anti-sickness to get thru the day.

I lost weight so have only just put some of that back on. I'm also size 14 and am very aware that I need to start exercising but to be honest I feel like I'm getting over flu I feel so weak from the lack of food!!!

I'm trying to persuade myself to go swimming...... so far I've not managed it. One day Wink

Me too! I'm nearly 11 weeks. I had a conversation with a mate early on asking whether it was ok to exercise not realising that the question was moot! ...As a week later I realised it wouldn't be possible in my curret state. I'm hoping in the second trimester to get some energy back, but I guess we'll have to be gentle on ourselves if we've not done it for a while.
Hope your energy levels improve soon! xx

Hi

I'm now in second trimester (18 weeks) with first baby and could not find any energy throughout my first trimester to do any exercise really.... I had the good intentions but felt a different type of tiredness (tired to the bone!!) after a days work / commute to Central London and was dragging myself up in the mornings too so anything beyond survival (!!!) seemed beyond the realms of possibility.

I'm no gym bunny myself but want to maintain some degree of activity in my pregnancy. Since getting to week 15 I finally stopped feeling so worn out and have managed a few circular walks... Easy exercise really.

OP - Is the gym that essential or a needless source of guilt between spending tim with your first born and incorporating a bit more activity into your routine once you're up for it? Must say, you do sound pretty busy anyway between work and home. If you stick to the healthier side of snacks, maybe just go easy on yourself??? Smile

I was a gym bunny and hardly went to the gym in both of my first trimesters. Too sick, too nauseous and too tired. I just wanted the sofa.

Once the fog lifted I was fine and back to keeping active and gym sessions, albeit at a much lower intensity.

Listen to your body. You'll know when you feel up to it.

Listen to meglet, she speaks sense. You're pregnant, take it easy. Just be kind to yourself and do what you feel up to doing. I did zero exercise in pregnancy other than walking during my commute.

I feel exactly the same, I am 8 weeks. This is my first DC.

Up until about 2 weeks ago I was going swimming a couple of times per week, a couple of 5km jogs, yoga classes, walking... Generally I like to do something for half an hour per day.

Roll on 2 weeks and I struggle to move from the sofa.

I also only don't feel sick when sleeping or eating :-( toast and crisps are my favourites. I haven't weighed myself yet but my clothes feel snug.

Hoping that I will get back into things soon, apart from feeling yuk I am wasting so much money on gym membership and yoga classes Shock

I also am not a gym bunny but I was going at least twice a week for 30-60mins. I think I've been maybe 5 times since found out was pregnant (am now 18w) I have now cancelled my membership (but due to time of cancelling its still valid until start of January) I decided that it was better to save the £45 a month and just go for a 20minute walk around the block every day. I just didn't have the energy to go after work/weekends. I may just see how much local swimming pool charges and start doing that occasionally although havent been swimming for years!! Just don't feel guilty I feel bad as I don't want to put on shed loads of weight (already overweight and bmi was 31 at booking) and I know I can still exercise (without danger to baby) but I physically couldn't find the energy.

Drag yourself if you can. I did a 'maternally fit' exercise class last week (at 19 weeks) and loved it.

Really had to drag myself as it's so cold and all I want to do is go home to my friend the sofa but I loved it so much i literally cannot wait for it again tomorrow.

That said I haven't been sick or nauseous so haven't had to grapple with that.

I try to gym 3x per week for 30-45mins. Last pg I only missed a handful of gym sessions due to nausea/tiredness. This time I have missed weeks and weeks! Have felt really ill, and only now at 14w the nausea is starting to abate, only to be replaced by a rotten cold. I keep getting automated emails from my gym - "we've missed you". Er, FUCK OFF!!!!

I'm the same, i'm 11 weeks now and I haven't been since the week after I got my bfp. Just far too tired and/or nauseous.

You'll feel better soon I'm sure and then you'll feel up to it.

If I remember correctly from the first time I started to go again at around 12-13 weeks and then carried on regularly until I was probably around 7 or 8 months? (much lower intensity and I stopped running when bump felt weird which was about 5 momths I think).

Don't stress and listen to your body, its tired as its making a person!!

I read somewhere that in the first trimester your body at rest is doing more 'work' than a normal body during exercise.
