Overweight, when will I start showing?

Hi,

I have my wedding coming up when I will be 20 weeks because of my culture if I am obviously showing I won't be able to get married or be present at the traditional ceremony. I'm presently 12 weeks, 103 kg (yes I know I'm overweight) I look the same, only difference is my boobs have gone up one size.

I'm quite worried. I hear for your first child you don't usually start showing anyone else overweight and pregnant? If so when did you start showing for your first child?

Thanks ladies!

I'm 21 weeks with my first and overweight. I'm still at the stage where if you didn't know you'd just think I was fat! It looks more like a bump in more fitted clothes but in others you can't tell. I'm still in all my normal clothes so hopefully you should be ok.

It's impossible to know, every woman and every pregnancy is different. I'm 19 weeks pregnant, about 70kg and not showing. Usually I think overweight women show later because obviously a bump is covered for quite a while, but honestly, it totally depends person to person.

Difficult to say because it can vary a lot between different women. And if you're overweight, people may assume that any extra bit of tummy is down to putting on a bit more weight rather than pregnancy.

I weighed about 2 stone less than you when pregnant with DS2, and there were quite a lot of acquaintances and colleagues who claimed that they didn't realise I was pregnant at all until they saw me with a new baby. He was born at 37 weeks and a normal size.. The way I was carrying him had apparently just made it look like I'd been overindulging in cakes Hmm

How fitted will your wedding dress be?

I'm pg with my first, over weight and didn't really show until after 20 weeks. I had to wear mat clothes from 18w but I just looked like I'd put a few extra pounds on.

My friend is overweight and honestly with both pregnancies she just looked fatter, not obviously pregnant at all.

I was a little overweight but didn't show until 30 weeks as I carried transverse. I looked a little chunky but until baby turned you couldn't tell I was pregnant.

I'm a size 10/12 and am 18 weeks and not showing at a all yet, i have moved up a dress size and my jackets don't do up over my boobs but that's the extent of it. If it's your first then it will be later get a nice loose fitting gown, I hope I'm not jumping to conclusions but if you wear a traditional dress such as a sari or similar ask an understanding family member or friend to wrap it a little looser than normal if possible

I didn't show at 20 weeks really and was small ( size 8). Well had tiniest bump but only showed in fitted clothing

It really depends but I would expect you will be ok if you don't wear something fitted in bump area as that would define anything

Something fitted at bust, then flowing would work

I didn't show in the midriff for about 6 months (gained weight very quickly due to morning sickness and so went from size 12 to size 16 in first 2 months).

What started to give it away at 4 months was my boobs - get an excellent bra so your silhouette stays in proportion.

It really varies from person to person. There's a woman on my antenatal thread who's a day ahead of me and she's very slim and hardly showing at 22 weeks-looks like she ate too much at breakfast. I'm about a stone overweight and I was obviously pregnant with a high, prominent bump from 9 weeks.

Maybe get your mum or sister to mention to a gossipy aunt you've been eating too much from stress in the run up to the wedding?

Congratulations on your pregnancy and your upcoming marriage Flowers

I weigh around the same as you I didn't notice my bump due to belly but midwife at 16 weeks did notice it.

I am now 22 weeks and my tummy has popped to me I noticed it around 20 weeks It defo looks like a pregnant belly over a fat tummy. The top under boobs seems to of just popped liked a football :P But it is all down to the person, this is my first child and I was 100kg at first appointment and still weight the same.

I think it's very dependant on body shape and how the weight is distributed. I am overweight but carry it mainly on my bum and thighs rather than my stomach so at 20 weeks I look very obviously pregnant.

I was overweight (size 16)with my 1st pregnancy and started showing at 20 weeks, although my lower part of belly was soft my top part really rounded out, and didn't put weight on anywhere else.

I'm 13 weeks pregnant with my second and look about 6 months pregnant. But I hadn't lost all my baby weight still a stone over my ideal weight.

Skyra has it been easy to stay the same weight? Have you been doing lots of exercise?

I think it also depends on your body shape a bit, i.e. how much space you have between your pelvis and your ribs. I had a BMI of 28 on booking in and could easily have passed as non pregnant at 20 weeks. At 22 weeks I went to a work party and people noticed my soft drink before my little bump. By 26 weeks strangers were offering me seats on the bus! What gives you that giveaway 'pregnant' shape is when your bump starts to grow above your navel. Make sure your dress doesn't cling too much below your waist and make sure to complain to friends and relatives about your stress-induced eating...

I have to admit that I have not been doing lost of exercise! The only thing I have done is taken the dogs for longer walks and I have cut out most of the junk like crisps and chocolate changed smoothies and juice don't really like fruit so smoothies were a good choice and being sensible with my meal sizes!

I seem to be unable to actually eat large meals any more so I go for smaller meals.
Not effected baby in anyway she is growing well :)

I'm not overweight, but I'm 20 weeks today and could still easily hide my mini bump if I wanted to.
