What sizes to buy?!

Do most people just buy 0-3 months straight away or start with newborn? Me and my partner we're both very big babies and I'm just wondering whether it would be best to buy a few new born bits and mostly 0-3 months?

I've bought a few first size vests but everything else is 0-3. DD was 7lb 14 an her first size stuff lasted for a whole 2 weeks, complete waste of money Hmm

My 9lb 6 baby fitted "up to 1 month/10lb" for about a week. Newborn didn't fit. At the start some 0-3 seemed huge tho

I bought most things in the "up to one month size" which is up to 10lbs I think and a couple of newborn bits.
Out popped DS 9 days early weighing only 6lb4oz. Cue DP on a mad dash to asda to buy tiny baby clothes. He's 14 weeks now and 0-3 is only just fitting him without looking too big and having to roll the sleeves/legs up!
I grow little babies

My 2 were both over 9lb but we're long and slim. They were both in newborn/up to a month clothes for the first 3/4 weeks. I would get a few in first size but mainly invest in 0-3. If you end up having a tiny baby you can always buy more.

I'm planning to get cheap stuff from a local specialist charity baby shop so will get a good variety of sizes. I don't want to have to go shopping with a newborn so would prefer to have too much (at 20p each!) and then give back to them afterwards.

Just get a pack of newborn sleepsuits and another of vests, everything else in 0-3. Then if DC needs newborn, its easy enough to pop out and buy some.

DS was 9lb9 at birth and didn't fit in any newborn things except those for up to 10lb and even they only lasted a week because he's so long. Luckily we'd only bought 1 pack of newborn babygros, everything else was lent to us so it didn't matter that he hadn't worn it. He's now growing out of 0-3 months at 8 weeks again because he is so long.

DD was 7lbs 12oz and didn't fit in 0-3 month stuff until she was about 8 weeks! We bought newborn for the first month or so (Mamas and papas and John Lewis were bigger than Mothercare ones), then some 0-1 month from Sainsburys and Next.

Ds was 6lb5 and only started to fit into 0-3 at 3 and a half months. I went on the advice of MN and bought only one pack of vests and sleep suits in newborn but even they didn't fit until he was about 6 weeks old. I would say get at least one pack of vests and sleep suits in each size but make sure you keep the receipt so you can take them back if not worn.

Def buy 1 month (mostly up to 10lbs) and 0-3/3 months (mostly up to 14lbs) and some Newborn (mostly upto 7.5lbs). Wash all your 1 month/3 month and some of the Newborn and pack 1 month and Newborn in your bag (3 sleepsuits/vests of each?) and then if the newborn is too small you can return the rest.

DS is 4 now but I brought 15 in tiny baby/newborn 15 in 1 month and 15 in 3 month. I expected a small baby but DS came out weighing 8lb 4. I'd washed everything though I couldn't return a thing so was seething- especially when most of it sold for less than a quid on eBay!

0-3 stuff swamped ds - he was 7lb 10oz and 55 cm long. DH had to and get newborn size stuff: it lasted about a month.
