Hi I first started bleeding around 11 weeks, it was only 1 gush of blood every couple of weeks they scanned me and checked heartbeat each time and everything was fine with the baby

since about 19 weeks I've pretty much bled every day with some bleeds being worse than others! I had my 20w scan on Friday 14/11/14 they advised me the only thing that can be causing the bleeding is a low placenta, baby was fine and healthy and had a strong heartbeat

I went away very reassured and happy, however on Friday night I had my worst bleed so far and was in hospital for a few hours, the blleding stopped and heartbeat was strong. I was advised as I'm only 20 weeks there's nothing that can be done really which I understand. I went home and had a consultant app on Monday, he put me on bed rest and advised me to admit myself to hosp if I get anymore heavy bleeds

So far I've not had anything to heavy maybe enough to soak half a pad each day, I'm just going out of my mind with constant worry it's awful I'm upset 24/7 and I'm worried! I understand that this sort of thing does happen but does anyone have any advice or anything at all that may help me xxx I'm 21 weeks today

Oh, I am sorry. This Must be hard. I think it's unfortunate that the consultants and hospital aren't being more forthcoming but I suspect that they feel there's little they can do at this point. Have you looked up placenta previa? There's lots out there. But I seem to recall that the main advice is to take it easy as much as possible to reduce chances of bleeding

Once you are further along, I think that of you continue to bleed they might make ou stay in hospital so a) enforce bed rest and b) ensure that if bleeding happens badly they are on hand and can deliver baby if necessary.

Try to relax and rest as much as possible. And I would also insist that the consultant explain to you what their longer term plan is and what the real risks are.

Does sound like placenta praevia. I had this and had bleeds from 25 weeks with DD1 who was born by planned c section at 38+1 and weighed 5lbs 6oz. Now a tall slim strong rock climbing 9 yr old!!

I got steroid injections in legs at 25 weeks in case baby came but they always said as long as she was better off in than out that's what they'd do, even if it meant blood transfusions.

Old fashioned docs would have kept me in from 25 weeks but luckily let me go home with strict instructions to come in if necessary. Did get DH to drive me in very fast at 4am a few weeks later, it was quicker than waiting for an ambulance.

Be aware that a proper gushing (sorry if TMI) can cause you to loose a pint of blood in 5 mins so don't wait too long.

Also no internals by HCP's. It's very routine to have internals when you're pregnant so you may have to let MWs or HCPs know and keep legs crossed!

It was a bit nerve racking for me but my in laws barely coped with the worry! I wasn't on bed rest but nothing strenuous and didn't go far from home at all. No sex either for me until DD was 2 weeks old (benefit of c section and hadn't DTD for 4 months!)

Throughout tho my DDs heartbeat was always fine and the staff were very calm about blood loss. Oh and the hospital had NO sanitary pads, had to literally scrounge one maternity pad off them the first time while DH went out to buy some.
