Is anyone else trying to lose weight during pregnancy and would you like to chat about it here?

I've had to stop 5:2 since realising that I am pregnant, but would like to keep up the momentum! On GP's advice I'm following a regime of around 1400 calories a day and hoping I can shed the remaining 7lb. Some moral support and sharing of notes would be fantastically helpful if anyone is in a similar position!

Hi, I am as of today trying to reign in my weight gain rather than lose anything. I am 20+1 and gained nearly 2 stone since finding out I was pregnant! Shock

I wasn't particularly big beforehand (size 12) but I am getting really fed up with myself now so trying to stop giving in to all my cravings for cake and pies! Why couldn't I crave veggies?!

Myfitnesspal suggests to maintain my current weight I should stick to around 1900 cals a day, so that's what I shall (on the whole) aim for!

You are a stronger willed woman than me for sticking to 1400 cals!

I was doing 5:2 before getting pregnant as well!

I missed it so much at first and I was scared that without a calorie deficit I'd pile weight on quickly. I tend to need some sort of 'plan' all the time as I used to be overweight.

I have been eating too many white carbs and fruit but my weight gain is ok so far... touch wood 4kg by 20 weeks. I still think I should slow it down as much as possible so have cut out carbs at dinner time. I would like to see what others decide to do, as I know this topic can be a little controversial, but I don't see why since gaining too much can be bad for the birth and for the baby.

rusty do you think 1400 is too low? The Dr suggested 1500 but this is a bit high for me to actually lose weight, according to my calculations.

Don'tbe I miss 5:2 too! Was so simple. I find daily calorie counting much harder.

Im also now trying to be more sensible with my choices. I think I've gained 1.5stone already and I'm only 18weeks Confused
I had such bad nausea in my first trimester (all day nausea rather than morning sickness for me) and the only time I didn't feel sick was when I was shovelling something in my mouth. And unfortunately the something tended to be cheese on toast, salt and vinegar crisps and buttered crumpets!

I'm going to try and follow the principles of SW as I have done it before and I only ever struggled with syns on booze. Now I'm a teetotaler it should be easier. It should stop my toast and lurpak addiction anyway!
I'm not so bothered about being a proper fatty. I just really don't want to be hooked up to monitors the second I get into hospital and I know that being overweight can limit your choices or present complications. If I can help prevent that then i can at least bloody try!

jolly for me, 1400 would be too low, it does depend how tall and active you are but I think that is quite strict given that you are pregnant. However, given that I've been a pig since falling pg I am perhaps not one to give advice!

ms wibble that is part of the reason for my gain, not so much MS, but just feeling sick every time I get hungry. So I avoid getting hungry! Hmm

I'm very lucky not to be feeling sick (yet?), I did in my first pregnancy and following any kind of eating plan would have been out of the question. With my second I just kind of gave myself licence to mainline fresh cream eclairs on the grounds that I was also breastfeeding, and funnily enough I put on lots of weight...in the two years since DS2 arrived I've failed to shift the last stubborn stone, and when I finally got back on the diet wagon I had lost 7lb before I realised I needed to POAS.

Rusty I'm 5'7 and weigh 11st 14. I put my activity levels as "low" into the calculator becasue I get little proper exercise, but I teach part time and have a pre-schooler and toddler to look after the rest of the time so in reality I'm a bit more active than that.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my first child and have been struggling with nausea for 4 weeks. Haven't been sick but it is really affecting what I eat. I've already put on a few lbs as I'm just eating what i can which is usually chocolate or something sweet, however have noticed that if i force myself to eat at least a little bit of fruit or veg I do feel better for it. Problem is once I've eaten something a few times I can't bear to eat it again. I'm also vegetarian so am very aware of eating enough protien etc. Taking pregnancy vitamins and the midwife has assured me that the baby will get what it needs but right now I'd just like to feel normal again. I had such romantic visions of being one of those pregnant women who is out jogging in the park and glowing! How wrong was I? Just waiting for week 13 when I should hopefully start to feel better.

jolly that does seem kind of low to me for your height. Maybe you could do 1400 plus a couple of fruit snacks?

Rupert Grin - I too had visions of me jogging on the treadmill with my tidy bump! It is an effort now just to get out of the bath!

Hello rupert, I do hope you feel better soon. The carbs love is so strong when you're nauseous.

rusty I was closer to 1500 today, including 2 skinny hot chocolates. Perhaps that is more realistic!

My plan was to stick to the WW filling and healthy food list. Obviously that went out the window completely when the nausea started so I have gained (don't know how much). Now that I'm starting to feel better, I'm going to put that plan onto action.

hi apocalypse are you seeking to maintain your weight then? I found the 2nd trimester easier in my last two pregnancies as the kind of things I really wanted to eat were fruit, yogurt and endless ploughmans lunches which are pretty healthy if you don't overdo the cheese. Are the ww filling and healthy foods fruit, veg, wholegrains etc and you add points for meat, sugars etc? I did ww years ago but it has changed since then.

I have lost weight since becoming pregnant I was just under 14st when I fell pregnant & now at 26wk I weigh 12st4. This has not been intentional at all in the early stages everything made me feel sick bit now I just have no appetite at all I have to remember to eat because I have to not because I'm hungry. Midwife gives me a telling off as there's always ketones in my water ( suggesting I've not eaten or drank enough) but my bump measures exactly right. I suppose I was a big girl to start off with & stopping the daily wine I used to have has all contributed to the weight loss.

Well I'd rather lose some excess fat if I can but I'm kind of feeling like that doesn't really happen. As far as I know, the filling and healthy is supposed to be for weight loss rather than maintenance but you can eat as much as you want of the food on the list. Other stuff has to be counted.

Hello Bondy can you drink lots of water/tea/soup? Not great about the ketone wee but I agree about the wine! Im finding it much easier to keep within my calorie allowance with that off limits.

Hi, I am 8+3 and have been doing SW for 6m although focusing on low sugar eating. I had GD in last pg and due to strict diet didn't gain weight but once I'd had DS I ate all the biscuits and put on 3st, what an idiot eh.

I am now back to original pre-pg weight which is still in the obese category but better than it was. I really want to eat healthily but am feeling pretty sick at the moment so am reaching for the carbs and I know I've already slipped by a few lbs. Also the exhaustion is making me think I'm hungry. So I need to get on top of it fast!

I have some forms from SW that I have to take to my booking tomorrow for the mw to sign and say I'm ok to continue SW. Then the harder part starts of actually following it! Good to know there are others in similar boats, I look forward to hearing your successes.
