I'm 14wks pg and I have a 2 1/2 yr old.
For the last 2 wks I've had a cough cold that is just not clearing. It is keeping me up at night and I am off work. I am exhausted, and quite tearful. The cough is chesty and is now starting to cause stress incontinence which is just awful and embarrassing I have never had trouble with my pelvic floor before.
I have seen my gp and he firstly gave me some antibiotics which obviously haven't worked because it's a viral not bacterial infection. He said its common for pregnant women to feel so unwell as all of their reserves are being used creating the little life inside them.
Today I had to go back for a sick note, I'm still feeling just as unwell as I did 2 wks ago he said if it continues for another wk I'll need to go to hospital for further tests, and the longer this lasts for the more it could potentially put my unborn baby at risk.
So basically I'm asking has anybody else experienced anything similar?? What tests will I need?? And what can I do to improve things and protect my baby???
Thankyou

There is a horrible virus going round with a cough that lasts weeks and weeks. You have my sympathy as I suffered with it and now have very painful inflamed ribs from the coughing! The best thing you can do is rest, and drink plenty of fluids. Nice warm things like honey and lemon with hot water, or fruit tea to soothe your throat and loosen your chest. Take paracetamol if you're in pain.
Sorry you're feeling so rotten - hopefully getting signed off will allow you to rest up and get well sooner.

I had full on bronchitis, antibiotics, constant coughing, stress incontinence etc at around 28-32 weeks (yes, for a month... It started as a heavy cold and took me a while to get to the doctors). It was hellish, I pulled muscles in my bump from coughing, and felt awful. I had a temperature for a few days of this, and hardly slept for weeks. At no point did anyone suggest that it could put my baby at risk, in fact one doctor I saw was keen to reassure me that I would have to be far, far sicker before they worried about this. Hope this helps - get well soon! There is not much that you can do other than rest and stay warm inside.

Yes. I had this. Mine was initially diagnosed as asthma but the inhalers didn't do much. It turned out to be reflux. Once properly treated it went. I tried gaviscon, ranitidine and eventually omeprazole did the trick.

Thank you, it's really reassuring to know that it's not just me and with a bit of time and patience I should hopefully resume to normal with a healthy baby. I think because I'm sooo tired I am completely overthinking and worrying about everything and the hormones don't help! I know I need to stay positive and I think I might try the lemon and honey thankyou everyone. This was my first post and it's so nice how supportive you all are on here ??
