Eating vast amounts of food, only 7 weeks, help me save my future waistline!

Oh my goodness I am going to be the size of a house by the end of my first trimester at this rate!

I am only 7 weeks pregnant, but the constant nausea and mild shakes have kicked in properly in the last week. I am eating so much as it helps, but I have taken to eating a whole (500ml) tub of raspberry sorbet a day, it takes the edge off more than anything else. And at least 2 packets of ready salted or salt and vinegar crisps. This is on top of my usual meals.

I am normally a small eater during the day, I could happily skip lunch and have a larger dinner as well as breakfast, so this seems like a huge amount to be eating during the day.

After my DD was born I was back in pre pregnant clothes after 5 days. If I keep this up that will never happen!

In seriousness I just want to stay healthy and worry about the junk inducing gestational diabetes. Any thoughts?

That craving for fruit ices and salt and vinegar crisps is so typical in early pregnancy. I imagine it will pass, but a whole tub of sorbet is a lot of sugar and not much nutrition, so could you cut down to one ice lolly a day and suck it to make it last. And buy some fresh raspberries / sharp fruits like clementines too - get the vitamins, minerals and fibre of fruit in you.

There is definitely something about continuous eating that helps with nausea for some people. I found boiled sweets and chewing gum did the trick and usually opted for sugar-free.

Freeze some fruit - grapes were fab for me, but no reason you can't freeze berries etc to give you a similar hit in smaller amounts snd with a bit less extra sugar!

God there is something about fruit-I've craved it all the way thru. In first trimester I was feasting on those 100% juice orange lollies. I've moved onto dried fruit, fresh fruit and smoothies. Yes they are sugary but at least they have the fibre and nutrients of the fruit. When I have heartburn and nausea, apples really help!
Do you like herbal teas? What about fizzy water with a squeeze of lemon?

You don't bring on gestational diabetes through poor diet, it's caused by a number of known risk factors.

I have to eat my way through nausea too. I find drinking a lot if water and milk helps too.

I've posted this in another thread but it's something I saw on Pinterest and has really helped me...
I squeezed 2 limes, 2 lemons, a big blob of honey, a tiny pinch of salt and topped up with water. Blitz together with a blender and froze them into ice cubes! Soooo refreshing and much more natural. They're supposed to contain electrolytes, not sure of the science behind it all but they're certainly helping my nausea! X

Thanks all. I have made shopping list of all these suggestions to try and make later.

The only complication is I have a lactose allergy, so milk not good idea. Also I had massive acid/stomach problems with my DD so I am being cautious with my citrus intake.

Thanks a million for all the suggestions.

I'm with you, I'm eating my way through nausea and I've put on so much weight - I'm 9 weeks. I'm hoping that once the nausea leaves me I can focus on eating healthily, this happened to me last time and I was a lot better around 12 weeks. I'd just do whatever you need to at this time and then be very healthy when the nausea goes.

I wasn't even in my pre pregnancy clothes after 5 months, let alone 5 days.

Do whatever your body wants for the first trimester. Lots of women put on loads of weight on in the first tri then not much at all for the rest of pregnancy. Anything's better than constant nausea! It will be much easier to eat healthily once you're over the nausea, so don't worry about it.

I'm feeling a bit smug though as last pregnancy I ate constantly throughout, put on 5 stone Shock whereas this one I am so nauseous at 10 weeks I can't keep anything down so haven't put on any weight at all! Not good really I know , just funny how it can vary. Nb I did lose all the weight within 6 months last time, with some effort involved.
