V excited as I have a 5 month old. Sending congrats on being preggo gift. Am buying him the "Commando Dad" book as I know he'll love it and want to buy her something too but not something for the baby as I know that would have weirded me out so early....but all the useful things I can think if of - bio oil, bump band / possibly a little scary/unglam. Any good ideas?

I got bought a massive pregnancy pillow quite early on. Didn't really need it at that stage but it's sooooo nice to sleep in even early on :-) www.amazon.co.uk/PILLOW-PLEASURE-MATERNITY-SUPPORT-COTTON/dp/B004T31A8U?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Or perhaps vouchers for maternity clothes? Pregnancy spa day?

Not support bump bands, but the ones you wear to eke out a few more weeks from your usual trousers?
Asda do some lovely alcohol-free bubbly (in a champagne style bottle) which you could send with some spa type pregnancy lotions and potions (Boots have nice stuff by Burts Bees etc') as a treat?

As above I would appreciate some nice smelliest etc :) I know it's not technically for her but you could always get her a restaurant voucher or voucher for afternoon tea etc if she's still eating fine. Or if you know her quiet week maybe do a hamper style with her favourite mag, chocolate, nice candle etc :)

The Commando Dad book is fantastic! My DH bought it for himself while we were in the first trimester.

Here are some ideas that I would have appreciated in early pregnancy:

  • Take her to a spa for a massage or other treatment
  • A home pampering kits, e.g. nice-smelling bath salts or face masks
  • A small hamper-style gift with hot chocolate and other nice things
  • A bunch of flowers and a card! Sounds simple but fresh flowers are always welcome with me :)

I feel bad that I didn't send my sister-out-law anything until my nephew was born. When she heard she sent me a mum-to-be box (Sanctuary, Spa Covent Garden) I'm not a very girly girl but the stuff seems quite good -although both a firming lotion and a collagen boosting one and I don't know the difference!

Now my brother has sent us a book called "Experimenting with Babies" which has nice/fun experiments you can do with your baby around their development. I'm very interested in science (as is all my family) so it made sense.

Why not give her a voucher for a pregnancy massage or similar? I'd have loved something like that. xx
