What's the deal with this nub theory??

Showed a friend my 13 week scan pic and she claimed to be able to tell what I was having!
Call me a pessimist, but if the sonographer can't see anything, how can the untrained amateur tell??
So I'd be interested to get some opinions on what other people think, based on this nub thingamajig, and see if you think the same as her...
Thanks in advance :)

You can tell by the angle of the nub and at 13 weeks it's pretty accurate.

I'm not very good at it but I don't think I can make a nub out in that picture.

She might have meant this one? But I think this is even less clear than other one! Haha

True. I did ask tho! Ha. Didn't want to know tho as we aren't finding out with this one as it's baby number 3! Was curious if she could tell so early tho

I doubt they'd be allowed to tell you anyway. Go to: www.in-gender.com/forum/forum.aspx?ID=95 and a group of sonographers will look at it and tell you Smile

My sonographer at my nhs nt scan told us she thought it was a boy which we've since had confirmed. So I think they do sometimes but they're not supposed to.

I think boys might be easier to spot, for obvious reasons! Hehe. Not sure I can make anything out on these photos tho...

It depends how far gone you are. The sonographer can't tell you what they think because it's not always right and if you leave with your hopes up It's a boy but then it's a girl.. All hell can let loose! Haha
I'm pregnant with my first one and cannot wait to find out what it is but don't understand how this nud theory works? But apparently you shouldn't automatically assume that it's a boy if you see something that looks like a penis cause it can actually be a clitoris .. Hmm Grin

It's a minefield! All very confusing. I'll find out when he/she is born. I CAN wait another 5months!!! I think...

Potty shots (a look between the legs) are useless so early because both genders have pretty much the same 'down there.' The nub theory is that the difference between the two genders can be spotted by looking at the angle of the nub which either tilts up to become a penis or stays in position to become a clitoris. My sonographer hadn't heard of the nub theory but we asked for her to get shots of the nub so that we could work it out for ourselves. Our little ones nub was flat to the spine (girl) as opposed to tilted upwards (boy) and it was confirmed at the 20 week scan that it is indeed a little girl so it was accurate for us.

Hope that helps.
