Early Scan Problems

Hello, looking for some advice please to try and order my thoughts

Thought I was 7 + 2, according to LMP on 15th April.

Went for early scan today (booked by consultant as have hypothyroidism and mild inflammatory arthritis). Scan showed that I am actually 6 weeks, 15mm gestational sac, yolk sac present but no heartbeat visualised.

Am booked in for repeat scan in 1 week.

Sonographer said not unusual not to see fetal pole or heartbeat at 6 weeks. Consultant said too early to tell if viable.

I still feel pregnant, testing strongly positive, still have symptoms (probably increasing slightly), had no bleeding or cramping

I'm really hoping things will be ok but maybe need to prepare for worst.

Thanks for reading and for any thoughts x

Yes, I have had something similar happen. My LMP 25th March or so I went for a scan (beggining of May) coundn't see anything but gestational sac. Went back two weeks later and there was 'something there', didnt even tell me what it actually was! and no heartbeat ...anyway, they gave me progesterone and I am scheduled to go back next week. The best of luck to you Thanks

Hi,

I don't have any advice but I'm in the same boat.

Should have been 6+5 on Monday when I went for an early scan due to spotting over the weekend.

Yolk sac found but no heartbeat.

I go back on Tuesday for a follow up scan. I was told to try not to worry, easier said than done!

Fingers crossed that everything works out for you.

I have been waiting for about a month now! Shock

Remember that dating by LMP is not exact. It only is accurate if you have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. This isn't the case for most women. Dates can be out by as much as a week - sometimes more.
Keeping fingers crossed for all of you to get good news at your next scans! They are right - 6 weeks is often too early to see a heartbeat. 7 weeks + you should see something.

Hi Alice and Pinot - just wondering how you are both doing and whether you have any news. I went for another scan today and sac has grown 6mm and now a small fetal pole present but no heartbeat. Got to go back for repeat scan in a week, so more time unfortunately in limbo :(

Me and my friend were in same boat she has had her baby 3 weeks ago and I'm currently 29 weeks, I had cramping from very eartly on and I knew my dates and was told I was 5weeks 6 days when I was sure I was 7 weeks but didn't argue waited 10 days for repeat scazn and baby was 8weeks 4 days so she did a whole lot of growing in those days epau kept telling me not tyo build hopes up if I was sure of dates but I'm sat here with tiny bump writing this so it can be ok

Thank you - that's really good to hear that you had a positive outcome. Good Luck with it all. I just don't really know what to think. Positive progress since last week but still measuring way behind dates and sure of my dates too. It's horrible waiting :(

Bad news from me I'm afraid. I miscarried on Saturday.

Absolutely gutted but also relieved that the limbo is over as awful as that is to say.

I hope things work out well for you greenolive.

Wine here too Smile

How are you feeling Alice & if you don't mind me asking are you thinking of trying again?

DH had said we will wait until I'm ready to try again but I get the feeling he would rather sooner than later.

I don't actually know what I think, which is probably normal I guess?

I had same - my first scan at epu couldn't see v much at all and put my dates back a week, which was a worry because I had used an ovulation thingy. Anyway, had to wait 2 weeks for a rescan, could see heartbeat etc, and the dates had reset back to my dates by the 12 wk dating scan.
This waiting is so hard though, hopefully all will be we'll for you though.

Hi Pinot, I'm going to definately leave it for a bit and rethink the whole thing Grin ...I mean...will this happen to me again?

I wonder whether the RH Negative blood has anything to do with it?

I don't know, just going to have fun in the sun and re-think it later this year. I have to go back in a month to check if my period is back to normal and they said not to 'try again' in that time so...but mine wasn't planned to be honest....just a little bit more worried about the whole thing now xxx

Sorry to hear that Alice and Pinot xx

My Consultant was in touch to say she thinks the pregnancy won't continue. Still had no bleeding or cramping yet and I would like things to happen naturally

Sorry to hear that greenolive. Are you ok? A hard question to answer I know.

Alice, I'm Rh negative too but had no problems in my last pregnancy which made this more of a shock I think. I naively assumed if I was ok the first time I'd be ok this time.

My MW told me I could try again straight away, she said the advice about waiting has changed but I may want to wait so it's easier to date the next pregnancy and avoid worrying if scan dates seem out.

I might just enjoy the summer too and see how I feel after that xx

Yes, I had it once at 28 weeks.

I would have had it again but my son is also Rh neg so it wasn't needed.

Hope that helps x

I am okay thanks Pinot. Really sad but want to try and move forwards too. Just waiting on next scan on Thursday but I don't think there will have been any positive progress

Told my workmates today what has been going on and everyone has been really supportive

Still going to work as normal but can't concentrate at all. Am there in body but not in mind

Just wondering what other people have been doing about work? x

I took a week off. I am a teacher so being there in body only wouldn't have worked.

I was worried about very heavy bleeding and something happening in front of my pupils. As it turns out my bleeding was very light but my school were understanding and told me to take off as much time as I needed.

I think you should just play it by ear and see how you feel. If you need to take time off I would. I was very tired this week and I don't think I could have coped with my commute plus a busy day.

Thinking of you x

Thanks All. Unfortunately, scan confirms miscarriage and embryo has actually shrunk. Going in on Monday for medical management. It's horrible but I do feel a bit better that I actually know now and there's a plan in place. Best Wishes to everyone else in a similar situation x
