Possible ectopic pregnancy

I found out on monday that I am around 4-5 weeks pregnant (unplanned but not unwelcome!) The doctor referred me straight to the Early Pregnancy Unit as I had had cramps and a little bit of blood (brown so I guess old blood). When I got to the unit they did an internal scan but said they thought that the implantation may be too close to my fallopian tube. So, cue lots of waiting around and then the consultant doing a second scan with 4 other people in the room! Hideous! They seemed to think there would prob be enough muscle around the yolk sac that it would be ok, but am going for another scan on Tues as they are still a bit unsure. In the mean time, I have had two blood tests for HCG levels, which have gone up, but not by enough, so now am having another on Sat. Have had a bit more bleeding and a brown clot but no pain too...Just feeling a bit scared and wondered if anyone else had had any similar experiences? Is my first pregnancy and as was unplanned, am feeling totally overwhelmed at how fast everything is happening :(

How are you feeling now Jen? Didn't want to leave your post unanswered. If you need to talk or vent here feel free.

I'm okay thanks, last blood test was a bit better apparently, more what they wanted to see in terms of an increase. I've managed to chill out about it a little as I get used to the idea of everything. Will know more on Tues so fingers crossed all is ok :)

Good luck for Tuesday Thanks ifs its any consolation I had some cramping and brown spotting early on, but all seems fine now (17weeks).

Do you have someone to be there with you on Tuesday? Fingers crossed everything will become clearer. Seems positive that the blood has been brown instead of fresh red.

Hi! Obviously everybody is different, but I had an ectopic pregnancy which resulted in the loss of my left fallopian tube. I had been trying to get pregnant and I thought I had succeeded because I wasn't getting my period, but I took several pregnancy tests which all came out negative.

5 days after my period was due I had some spotting which was mostly pink/brown, it could have been implantation bleeding. Another 4 days later I had pretty heavy dark red bleeding which I thought was my period. 2 days later I woke up in a LOT of pain as my tube had burst, although I didn't know it yet. I waited until the morning and saw my GP, who did a pregnancy blood test which came back positive. He told me to go to the hospital, where I saw a doctor who stupidly sent me home saying I might "just" be having a "normal miscarriage". Thankfully someone else in the hospital realised there'd been a cock-up and they called me back in the next day, did an internal scan and realised I was bleeding internally. What's really weird though is that they still weren't 100% sure I was having an ectopic as my levels were rising. They found out during the exploratory surgery. I was 5 weeks pregnant by then.

I don't know what might be going on with you but it sounds like they're doing all the necessary tests. What I can tell you, in a nutshell, is that my ectopic caused me a LOT of pain and some heavy bleeding, so you might be lucky. Either way - I fell pregnant again as soon as I was cleared to do so (2 months later) and I'm now 20+5 and all is normal. :) Keep us posted!

Thank you, my mum came with me for the scan and all went okay. The issue was that baby has implanted over to the left, and they were unsure if it was too close to the edge of the fallopian tube to be viable when growing. They seem to think that there is enough muscle surrounding that all should be okay, so feel massively relieved :)

Just an update that we are now at 33 weeks so all was okay in the end :)
Only 4 more weeks to go as I am being induced early due to obstetric cholestasis!
Oh the stress this bean has put me through before they've even got here! lol!

That is good news what a relief for you. I agree about the stress as I had bleeding too. You never switch off from it after that!

Hi guys I know this is an old thread but can't find anything more recent. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have pain in my side like a period pain and some slight bleeding. Went to the EPU after work and GP reckons its possible ectopic, I have a scan tomorrow but I'm nervous, any advice would be good!

You're doing exactly the right thing, addicted. All you can do for the moment is be kind to yourself - warm bath; manicure; chocolate, whatever it takes, and keep everything crossed. If it is ectopic they will find it early and deal with it. Hopefully all will be well though 🤞🏻
