Contractions- where does the pain sit?

I've been having really bad pains throughout the night. No regularity to them yet, and severity varying. The pains dut across my lower back and the underside of my bump. It's difficult to know if my bump goes hard because my bump is always hard- it's rock solid because of baby's position. I can nearest describe the pains as somewhere between a period pain and a poo pain.
My midwife has always said I'll know labour pains when I feel them- they'll go all up and over my bump. Well these pains aren't going all up over my bump, but they're certainly wrapping round my lower half . They're not constant, not regular, but occasionally need a bit of focus to get through. Could they be something worth getting excited about? ( being induced tomorrow at 12 days overdue do I'll know from the CTG machine then!!)

Mummy I've been having these since Friday lunchtime at. 36+5 - went to the hospital yesterday and they said although I was having very mild contractions it didn't appear to be affecting my cervix. They checked for a UTI (and concluded I didn't have one!) and sent me home to monitor the situation. In my case it appears to be a stop/start false alarm but the midwife did tell me it's not a bad thing because I'm still a tad early and these can develop into full blown labour! Given how far along you are here's hoping this is it for you!

They could be early contractions. I think descriptions can be misleading - mine were like a chinese burn to the spine and never round the front at all.Smile

I think it varies person to person and where the baby is (if it's back to back) etc. mine started as back ache and not being able to get comfy and then felt just like really horrendous food poisoning/ diarrhoea cramps all the way through.
