Sweep before due date?

My next midwife's appointment is the day before my due date. Do you think they are likely to give me a sweep at this appointment? I have suffered horribly with SPD and am on crutches. Baby is giving me a lot of BH and false alarms so I think we're both ready.

A sweep worked to get me going with DS1 so I really want to try one again as soon as they'll let me but I'm not sure if they'll do it unless I'm over my due date.

I wondered this too as in my area they offer sweeps from your due date and my mw appt next week will be the day before I'm due.

The midwife I saw last week said they wouldn't but I could go for an appt the day after (my due date) just for the sweep. I didn't have a problem with this and guess they have to follow the rules however it did seem a bit odd to me to quibble over 1 day.

They may do if you ask, but sweeps aren't so effective if your cervix hasn't begun to soften naturally, so they make want you to wait until 41 weeks, particularly as this isn't your first baby.

Mine wouldn't at 39+5 so going back tomorrow at 40+4. This is despite me begging and having frequent bh and false alarms.

Oh, and this is my first. For later babies I wouldn't get one till after 41 weeks.

Oh dear, that doesn't bode well then. I just want him out!

It's worth asking though! Just wanted to warn you though as I thought a couple of days wouldn't be a problem and was really disappointed when I got an outright "no". Not policy apparently. And this was after I'd snivelled at them for the appointment about not sleeping/painful bh/hip pain. They even agreed I was probably in a long latent labour, but wouldn't do it!

I'm trying for a vbac after a twin section last time and my consultant wants to start doing stretch and sweeps at 38 weeks.

So maybe she will....

Special circumstances for you with vbac and twins.

It seems pretty hit and miss whether they will agree, I asked about sweeps from 38 weeks as I'm keen to avoid induction (first baby, normal pregnancy, family history of 39 weekers) and my midwife friend suggested it was a good proactive way of showing you were serious about avoiding induction but got a flat no!

Sorry misread about the twins! Sweep is the only intervention they do for a vbac though isn't it so doesn't surprise me that they start early

I'm 39 + 4 and was offered one today at my MW appointment.

I had one last week at 39+1 and will have another tomorrow at 40+1. This is DC2. Seems very variable from place to place.
