Pregnant with Mirena coil

Ok so today I had a massive shock I've been feeling off for the past couple of weeks and a friend joked about me being pregnant. Now it made me think and as I haven't had any periods in the 4years I have had the Mirena I took a home test and got a BFP. So my question really has anyone else been pregnant with an IUD and what have their experiences been. I have googled but the only information is sketchy and all my GP has said is to be vigilant for ectopic pregnancy symptoms and wait until Tuesday at the early pregnancy unit. I am worried and scared as to whether it is ectopic as I have my son 7 and daughter 4 but I am also really frightened that it will be in utero for me to get my hopes up and then miscarry. I do know that it wasn't supposed to be there but I feel like if it managed to get this far it deserves a fighting chance I am just really confused over what is safest in regards to removing the Mirena or leaving it in situ???

Hi, I have been pregnant on the copper coil before which ad been in four years, it all depends where the coil is situated which they will see on the scan, sometimes they will take it out if its nowhere near the pregnancy and f this s not possible then they will leave in and monitor the pregancy, my cousin was born full term with the coil in her hand! Unfortunately if the do leave it in there is a higher chance of miscarriage later on in the pregnancy. Bt I think you will know more after your scan as it might have fallen out! Ths pregnancy I was ment to have had the mirena in, and went though what yor going through until I had a scan, turns out mine was not in there! (A long story) so didn't have to worry. Good luck with your scan xx

Sorry to hear that. I got pregnant on the mirena but thankfully everything was ok. It was a worrying time though. There is an ectopic pregnancy thread on here somewhere with people who've been through it Thanks
