Hard to say. It will depend on how favourable your cervix is. I had one at 38+3 and one yesterday 39+3 and all I've had so far is a bloody show last week but no labour so far. But my cervix has improved in that time so getting closer.

I had sweep number 1 at 39+5 and baby arrived 40+6, good luck to you though

I think it is more successful if you're overdue but I see it as anything to make induction less likely or a little easier if I get that far. I'm going in for induction on Monday - do you have one lined up too?

Yes I am being induced at 40 weeks if this doesn't work so I really want it to be. I had a session of reflexology this morning to try and help but I'm sure it's all old wives tales :) I have heard a sweep is very painful. I hope not... But at this point I just want it to work!

I tried acupuncture but hasn't worked. I think I have a stubborn one! The sweep isn't too painful but you may bleed a bit and I had period like cramps afterwards.

I had sweeps with both pregnancies and went into labour same day/evening with both. Didn't hurt either time.

I had one with ds on 40 week's, didn't work and I wouldn't bother having one again but they work for some people... Odds are they would though considering the timing!

I had a sweep at 40 + 4 and went into labour a couple of days after. I'm pretty sure it helped, and didn't hurt at all! I also went for lots of walks and walked up the stairs sideways, labour from start to finish was only 5 hours :D

I had two, they didn't work and I nearly broke DH's fingers.

I had one yesterday (40+4) hasn't done much ?? made me feel a bit violated and sore today! But I'd still have it done again to get things going!! Seriously fed up!!

I was overdue when I had my sweep, although not particularly comfortable I didn't find it painful. DS was born less than 24 hours later - but as I was more than 41 weeks who knows, he may have turned up anyway without the sweep!

I had a sweep at 39 weeks and nothing. ..baby ended up being induced. with baby 2 had a sweep at 42 weeks and labour started within 5 minutes!

I had one at 40+5 and another one yesterday at 40+6. Induction booked a 40+9.
It was very uncomfortable (but not as bad as labour I'm guessing! ) and then second was probably slightly worse than the first because everything was still a bit sore.

I was 3/4cm yesterday, "very stretchy" and "thinned out" apparently, so pretty favourable I guess ... But still nothing.

It's worth a try but don't get your hopes up.

My MW said if it hasn't worked with 48hours it's not going to (so anyone who had their babies days later would probably have had them anyway)

So I went but I only had a bishops score of 2 so it couldn't be done anyway! Waste of time. Oh well :( x

Yes, the day before I am induced. I assume there is no point hoping that anything will happen between now and then (6 days time)...??

There is always a point in hoping but try not to obsess over it (like I am!), it only makes the time pass more slowly

Anything could happen in the next week, you never know. Fingers crossed for you.

What does a bishops score of 2 mean? They've never told me my score.

My midwife told me today that they have about a 50% success rate once you're a week overdue - which sounds a bit like no more effective than doing nothing
