Cervix measurement 3.5cm at 14w 4days, should I be worried?

Hi all, I had my cervix measured about a week ago at 14w4d privately. The reason behind it was purely due to my own worries - I have had two full term births, however with the second which was a very fast labour - 9 1/2lbs my cervix was torn, as he appeared with his arm up by his head, and it was never repaired, though a gynecologist who later examined me said it should have been. I also needed a procedure due to having some bits of retained placenta.

After this I also had one late term termination (health reasons), but during this pregnancy have had issues with heaviness in the pelvic area and cramping.

The sonographer didn't seem at all worried by this measurement, but upon Googling (I know this is terrible), it seems my measurement is more like what someone would have at 20-30 weeks. I don't know whether I have a real reason to be worried, or whether I need to be measured again?

Mine was 3.3 at 15+6 and im not worried about it. A quick summary of what I learned from over googling is:

Average cervix is 5cm
Anything under 3 is worth more monitoring until about 28 weeks
Anything under 2.5 is worthy of a stitch

im booked in for another length scan at 21 weeks to see whats happening, not too concerned at this point, the main thing with risk of incompetent cervix is being monitored and measured as there isnt really anything they can do apart from the stitch, which carries its own risks so they only do when neccessary.

Hope that helps!

14+6, not 15+6, sorry!

Thank you, that is definitely reassuring! She did recommend I go back if I was still worried at about 20 weeks. So I'll probably book an appointment for then, and in the meantime stay away from Dr.Google!

Mine was 2.4cm at 14 weeks - they don't stitch at my hospital - it is still 2.4-2.6cm at 33 weeks. This is my fourth pregnancy and I have gone to 39 weeks with all of them, despite my abnormally short cervix. With DS3 it shrank to 10mm at 27 weeks. I still went full term. Get it checked again at 20 weeks and take it grin there Smile
