Pregnancy

8-9 weeks pregnant & bleeding this morning

This is my 3rd pregnancy. I had healthy pregnancies previously so this bleed has me terrified.

This morning when I went for my 1st wee I noticed blood stains on my pj bottoms and then bright red blood when wiping mixed in with a bit of mucus (sorry if TMI). I was in total shock & panic.

I contacted my GPs and they were great, told to go straight down and was seen straight away. They've arranged a scan at EPU tomorrow morning.

They asked me about pain but because I've been suffering badly with IBS and really bad constipation I've had lots of pains throughout, and an occasional stabbing pain low on the right.

However, I had a private scan at the weekend and saw a heartbeat, baby measured slightly bigger than dates so was told 6 days further along. This scan showed a cyst on my right ovary (a reason for the right stabbing pain??)

I've rested all day although I have been knicker watching every half an hour, touch wood that there seems to be no more blood since this morning so far. My boobs are still huge and painful, and I'm having my usual waves of nausea, actually woke up retching last night.

I'm trying to keep positive, although the words 'threatened abortion' on my sick note for work has me petrified.

I wonder if anyone has had a similar situation with a positive outcome?

Tomorrow morning feels like a lifetime away right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about this I know you are scared and would like to offer my support.

I really hope baby will be ok, and yes sometimes bleeding means nothing.
the only thing ringing alarm bells is the mucus bit - if that is the cervix "plug" (the show) then it might get bad very quickly.

I know this is not what you want to hear and I hope I'm completely wrong about this - but if I was in your situation I'd want to know though...

I know the fear you are experiencing, I really sympathize with you. I did have a MC in 2008 and she'd be 4 in May. I miss her so much..

but to balance it out a friend of mine was 4 months pg when the cervix opened up, and although the waters didn't break the doctor could see the amniotic sac!
she had her vagina sewed in to create a new holding structure for baby, but they were dreading the worst.
it was a "long" pregnancy - bed bound, no lifting, people rallying around to do everything including looking after her 2 year old (I'm welling up at the memory) but she carried to almost term & had a healthy baby boy who is now almost 9 years old!

so all is not lost just yet, weird things happen, it could have been a light period even...

I hope you can rest today and that you and baba will be ok

Hey. I had bleeding at the beginning of my pregnancy with lots of pain and went for a scan and thankfully all is fine and baby has strong heartbeat. My midwife told me the risk of mc is dramatically lowered once the baby has a heartbeat.
So fingers crossed it will be the same for you.
I do understand how scared u are tho as I have had 2 mc previously but like I say the heartbeat is a good sign.
Let us know how ur scan goes and good luck xxx

Also meant to say I have suffered from cysts on my right ovary as well and the pain is horrendous and I did bleed and have miscues when it popped so that could be from ur cyst. Xxx

I had bleeding on all 3 of my pregnancies around this stage and all turned out well. Your strong symptoms are all a good sign I would imagine. Wishing you the best

I have also had red blood this pregnancy but very early on, 5+4 weeks and passed a clot, but all was well and they found a heartbeat at 6+3 weeks, I had a small bleed outside of the sac and should dissolve on its own. When you see the blood it scares the hell out of you doesn't it, but if there is a heartbeat then keep positive and keep looking forward!xx

Thank you for you replies & kind thought.

The scan went well and baby was ok, heartbeat beating away. The bleed couldn't be explained, she said possibly some bruising around the uterus had caused it. My cyst on the right ovary is still there but still nothing to worry about.

We are so relieved. I came home and slept, I think it's the worry of it all, couldn't keep my eyes open once we got home.

What a scary few days that has been. Just hope this little prawn (that's what it looks like on the scan) is nice and healthy and the next 7 months go well.

I suffer from ibs with terrible constipation. My midwife explained to me that this can cause small bleeds in early pregnancy. Maybe that's what's happened? Glad everything is okay and hopefully you won't have any more scares now Smile

I'm so pleased for you :)

I had some bleeding on and off for a few days at 8-9 weeks in my second pregnancy. He is now wrestling with his brother in the living room :)

Thanks everyone, we are just so glad it was good news.

vix that's really interesting, I wonder if it has had anything to do with it. Without going into too much detail, I've been badly constipated since getting a line on the test, have upped my fibre considerably in the past week and actually 'went' properly earlier this week so I wonder if that's the reason for the bleed?

2Labs - i had a couple of bleeds with DS and was told that you have more blood down there, and some of the cells can be easily burst as a result. So a large bowel movement can set off a fresh bleed from around your cervix. Glad you had a good scan today x

Great to hear all is okay!

I had a bleed with DD1 the morning after a bout of terrible diarrhoea Blush, I was about 26 weeks at the time. I was hospitalised and driven steroids for DD's lungs as a precaution, but the doctor said the most likely explanation was the diarrhoea Confused

Chocolatecremeegg - that's basically what I was told too.

Op I took lactulose in the end and it really helped.
