It's AWFUL. Can't function at all... I'm up between 3 and 7 and occasionally manage to fall asleep again until 8... Thank goodness I have a ton of audiobooks on my ipod.
I found put I was pregnant on Saturday and the insomnia started last night but not sure if it just nerves.
Had it all the way through with DCs though, think it was body getting me ready for having no sleep once they arrived!!
I sympathise greatly!
Thank you! Sorry to hear you all are also suffering! Hopefully will get some sleep tonight and not end up crying on the sofa. Will go back to hoping it will get better each week!
Sorry I don't have answers either, only moral support from going through the same thing! I'm nearly 16 weeks with first pregnancy, and not slept well most nights the whole time so far. Find it hard to drop off in the first place, then am always up to pee around 2/3am, then I'm irritable and often sick and/or hungry, then it's a battle until 5/6am. No wonder we feel tired!
The only times it's been better for me is when I've been physically exhausted from lots of fresh air & exercise. Not easy to get (for me at least) when working every day, but maybe as the weather (hopefully!) gets better this might get more doable? Might be worth a try at least!
Good luck and hope it gets better soon x
Just to give you a little hope, I have had wretched insomnia from the start of my pregnancy. I have spent 6 months struggling through life feeling utterly shattered - no glow for me either! I've tried all the usual recommendations to no avail.
I have just reached 29 weeks and amazingly have started to sleep a bit better. Still up 2 or 3 times a night to pee, but managing to drop off again afterwards. I appreciate this might only be a temporary respite but I feel so much better for being able to sleep at least 5 hours at night. The only difference in my routine is I sometimes attempt to have a nap when I get in from work. For some reason even a tiny rest in the afternoon seems to help me sleep better later on. Here's hoping you start feeling better soon.
You poor thing. I hardly slept at all when I was pregnant. I'd go to bed at 10, wake at midnight and then want to fall asleep just as my alarm went off at 5am so would have to get up feeling very tired. Horrid. Lasted the whole pregnancy too. No one believes me that I get more sleep with my wake-4-times-a-night 5mth old...although, it's more tiring getting up and down than just lying there!
Get yourself a ds (the Nintendo kind) or a psp and play on them through the night. That's what I did to take my mind off worrying.
Massive sympathies - I saw 4am every night of my pregnancy without fail. I felt like I was in a constant fog. But honestly? I slept better with a newborn baby than fir a long time and she appears to have her father's sleep habits and has slept through since 8 weeks. It will magically get better once the baby comes.
DC3 for me (am 22+1) and I have been like this since the beginning too. It drives me bananas. I feel like I am constantly walking through a fog because I am so knackered. I also want to kick my husband when he is snoring beside me!!
I have no answers, just wanted you to know you are not alone!!
I agree with jazz. DD is almost five months and I definitely get more sleep at night now than I did when I was pregnant. I would spend hours awake at night. Towards the end of my pg I found that long naps after work helped- I felt as long as I was getting sleep at some point it didn't matter too much when.
Thanks! That makes me feel better and I hope that when the baby arrives it will all be ok. It's just so depressing not being able to sleep and having to function as I have to work and I'm supposed to be studying and not being able to use my evenings and weekends for studying is so frustrating! Lack if sleep won't harm my baby but it is certainly harming me at the moment! Maybe the baby will sleep well.
Is this your first baby?
I had insomnia with my first and am having it again with this pregnancy (28ish weeks now I think). It is horrible and people told me 'just wait till you have the baby' actually I can't wait to have this baby as last time I unbelievably slept so so much better with a newborn than I did when pregnant.
I'm really hoping that's the case again although this time ill have a toddler to run around after too
When I was pregnant first time I thought omg what has happened I'm going to be knackered like this but unable to sleep for the rest of my life with a crying baby. Honestly that couldn't be further from the truth. My immune system improved, I slept (in between night feeds obvs) and generally felt much better.
Night feeds weren't so bad as I was already used to not sleeping but I found I actually slept more as I slept inbetween feeds.
Cannot wait for this baby to come out so I can sleep again however strange that may sound!
I hope it's the same for you
Anyone suffering with chronic insomnia? Have had it since the start of my pregnancy and am nearly 20 weeks now. I know it will only get worse as the pregnancy progresses. It's so upsetting! I have tried everything and nothing works. Still not feeling the 'glow' of pregnancy. Nothing at all helps. Not helped at all by comments like 'wait until the bay arrives'! Feel shattered and miserable.
