Pelvic Girdle Pain (SPD)

Just wondering if anybody else is suffering?

I've been referred to physio by my midwife but the appointment isn't for another 2 weeks.

Have been in pain (lower back, one side or the other) pretty much non-stop since New Year and although I normally just get on with it, today I fancied a pity party Wink

Hasn't been as bad during the day as previous weeks, but nighttime is awful - the pain when I roll from one side to another, pillow between legs not helping, no pillow between legs not helping.

Fed up of not being able to do 'stuff'. Work have given me foot rests, arm rests, back support on my chair but it still hurts! Any housework other than cleaning the kitchen surfaces and spending 10 mins on the living room, causes too much pain. Luckily I have a fab SIL who is chief vacuumer and kitchen floor mopper!

Gah. Im beginning to bore myself with it now, so god knows what I must sound like out loud!

I know I don't have it even a tenth as bad as some do, so my heart goes out to those who have it really bad.

Anybody else fancy a moan???

Meeeeeee Angry nearly. 30 weeks and its buggering me up. I was on crutches with DS1 and spent literally thousands on an osteopath but didn't suffer as much with DD so felt quite smug that I wouldn't have it this time dickhead
To add to your list-sitting on the bouncy ball helps realign your pelvis, take co codamol, get a couple of the sports cool packs from Boots (about a fiver) and put them along each groin-I know, sexy huh?! That was the best bit if advice from the osteopath. Also if you can face it-aquafit /aqua running really strengthened my core and deemed to take the pressure off too. I 'm too fat and lazy arsed to get sorted this time round though......

Can empathise, I feel like a moan too Sad

I'm going to see an Osteopath, I am really hoping he can help!

great tips there - thank you. I was thinking of investing in a ball, but with 2 mad cats and a ball obsessed dog (and a 9yo DD who would assume it was for her Hmm) I wasn't sure if it was a good idea! I like the sound of the cool packs too.

I am 31 weeks. On the plus side, ELCS at 38 weeks (another medical issue - yay me! Not) So, only 7 weeks to go.

My pain is lower back, either side - sacroiliac (sp?) so am not suffering toward the front of the pelvic area.

I think I suffered with DD, but had assumed it was normal. I remember I couldn't walk far and the pain every night when my muscles relaxed as I lay down was immense (can remember it now and very similar to certain aspects this time round) I never sought advice as thought it was 'just one of those things'. This time round, definitely worse and spoke to MW who said straight away PGP and referred me.

Re co-codamol, I didn't think there was anything I could take I knew ibruprofen was out and have been taking paracetamol every now and again. Other than that, it's been a hot water bottle on my back and gritting of teeth!

Seem to have taken away the horrific pain by stopping my 4 bus journeys a day. Thankfully my dad has given me free reign over his car for the duration, it really has helped. Also, family helping out with housework and assisting me during the weekly shop (I feel so useless!!)

Aquafit is out - I can imagine I would be ok getting in to the pool but heaving myself out what if I got stuck? Blush

thanks for the tips, nice to know there is something you can do (the websites I've found either try and sell you stuff or rehash the same info about 'what' PGP is)

Nice to know there is somebody else out there who understands (nobody in my family/friends have had it so are a bit clueless - albeit willing to help/understand).

Bath time - then bed! Smile

34 weeks , 4 until section. Been on crutches 17 weeks now and using a wheelchair since New year (if I go out). Fed up now!
On codeine which works but can't take the full dose as it makes me woozy and unable to look after the other children.

I always said 'never say never' but I think this is my last too - I have DD and then DS to come, so that's enough.

Should I get broody again I will visit the dog rescue place Grin

Have the same as you and saw the physio a few weeks back. She said in addition to the pillow between the legs get a really old squishy pillow and lie with it under your waist. This stops so much pressure on your hips when you're lying down and helps keep your back straight.

I was wondering whether anyone has any support band recommendations as now at 25 + 6 walking DS to school is becoming an issue

Hello! Yes also suffering! It came on at about 30 weeks with DS1 (now 2) but pretty fast and pretty painful - was induced on my due date because I cried at my consultants appointment and told her I couldnt do a day more! (Pregnant, hormonal and in pain - it wasnt a good combination!)

It got much better after birth but never went completely away, would still feel it very sore after a 'big' day, a day at a theme park with lots of walking and standing for example

Am now 23 weeks with DS2 and it started over xmas (so about 17 weeks) so much earlier this time, its not quite as bad yet as it was in the last few weeks with DS1 but I think thats because I've learnt to manage it better - sit down/bath/hot water bottle/lying out flat in bed as soon as I can whereas I tried to do too much last time I think, I'm also going on maternity leave much sooner this time (31 weeks rather than 37 weeks last time) as I have quite a physical job and it got very difficult and painful

Not much you can really do for it - heat/proper posture/avoid standing and walking for long periods/physio exercises/pain killers/support belt is what I've been told there is - and to be careful during labour, dont get into a position that might aggrivate it further (stirrups for example) as you might not feel it at the time due to endorphins/drugs but you could really pay for it post-birth

Hope everyones not in too much pain today!

I'm literally feeling your pain ladies.

31+6 here and have the first physio next week. Yoga has been a big help, as has a nice warm bath and a wind-down routine every night.

I use a balance ball to work on but find too long on it makes it worse, and like some of you, find the pillow between the knees doesn't work either sometimes, it just transfers the pain to the outside of my hip/ass.

Sucks, doesn't it.

Can I join? I've been on crutches now since last Friday because of the pain. Although mine is in my groin area (it kind of feels like after I tore when I had DS). I'm stuck at home as I live in an upstairs flat and can't drive at the moment. It's doing my head in not having my independence. I actually had to be pushed around the supermarket in a wheelchair at the weekend. So embarrassing. Blush And my DH kept spinning me round so I had motion sickness as well!
I've found that being at home doing bugger all really helps but then I start feeling guilty...
I've got a physio appointment on Friday so hopefully I'll get some tips. If I get any not mentioned here I'll let you know.

Haha I know I had my DS trying to push me. Everytime DH had to go and get something he was trying to have a go. He's only 3 so he couldn't even see where he was pushing me.

Dd3 is 2, when my Nanna was alive dd2 used to push her round tesco , they both thought it was hilarious.

Sorry, started a thread and then buggered off!!

Nice (not the correct phrase) to see others here - welcome to the thread of pain/whinge.

I tell you that it really has made me realise how tough it is for people who live their life in pain, with little hope of relief - having had this for a short period of time it makes me humble to think of those who can't see an end in sight.

I tried the small pillow under me but it didn't work. Last night was horrendous - I had such a sore right bum cheek Blush for most of the day.

I've had a growth spurt and so bending down is pretty much impossible now anyway, but I am trying new ways to reach things when there is nobody else around to help (the remote control, car keys, mobile - seriously I drop every fecking thing at the moment). I got stuck yesterday, kneeling on the floor - had to kneel/shuffle closer to furniture to help me get up!

DD is being very helpful, in words more than action. I cleaned the bathroom earlier (is only little so not much work) and she kept shouting up "careful Mummy, don't hurt yourself" Grin

OTOH, I just asked her to feed the dog and she said "no thanks" Hmm

Go and see a good Osteopath. I was told by my midwife that there was nothing that could be done. I was given a belt made of a bandage. One trip to the Osteopath and it was 80% better.

doh, forgot. I am considering buying this ball..

here In the hope of some relief/help strengthening the buggered bits.

I am on the larger side (5'11" and overweight) so don't think a cheaper ball would suit I'd burst the bugger but money is tight and I don't have £20 just lying around - but then, the thought of some relief is making it very tempting.

I found a ball good last time but not this time.

heather the problem seems to be finding one that deals with pg women. None in my area do.
