This is my 2nd pg (first one ended early in mc) and I am 9 weeks. I feel the size of a house! I have put on 7lb already and almost gone up 2 dress sizes. I am sure Christmas hasnt helped but I am scared at how fast the weight has gone on! Anyone else?

I put on about 4lb by 7 weeks, but think it was mostly bloat/constipation, because at my 13 week scan I was back to my starting weight. Although the nausea also kicked in around then so I could eat much less, and maybe that led to losing a bit again. It also depends a bit on whether you are over or underweight to start with?

I put on a stone in my first trimester Blush but if I didn't eat all the time morning sickness kicked in; if I ate then I was fine so I decided I'd prefer that option :)

1 kilo by 16 weeks. But I wasn't skinny to start with, so this is what the doc recommended.

Er, none! I lost 4lb through morning sickness/lack of appetitie. I'd regained that by the end of my first trimester but no more. I'm 24 weeks now and am about 2lb heavier than when I got my BFP. I gained over Christmas but have lost most of that in the last few days with a terrible cold I've had no appetite!

The key question is what was your BMI before you got pregnant? Mine was about 30 so I am trying not to gain more than a stone. If you're normal/underweight you're fine!

I wouldn't stress too much about it. The sense I get is that everyone is different. How much you gain depends on your pregnancy (morning sickness, etc), how much you weighed before, etc etc. I didn't gain anything in 1st trimester, but then proceded to eat like a horse from about wk 18 and am now a lb or so over the upper end of the range I should be in now (27wks). But, I'm not too worried about it. You're right that the indulgences associated with Xmas, etc, probably don't help. But 7lbs really isn't all that much and your gain will probably ease off a bit once you get back to your usual diet.

Please don't worry or compare yourself too much, I think it really varies for everyone. I put on 12 lbs in my first tri, probably because I went from being a gym bunny salad obsessive into somebody who couldn't eat anything but simple carbohydrates and was too busy sleeping to go to the gym! I panicked at my midwife as I was really worried I was going to be enormous, but she said I should just chill out. I'm 20 weeks now and, in spite of Christmas, my gain has slowed enormously and I'm starting to level out.

Don't worry. I've found the weight threads attract loads of comments along the lines of 'I lost loads of weight and finished my pregnancy lighter than I started...' which makes the rest of us feel like we are abnormal.

I gained 8lbs in the first trimester. I'm fit and toned, and have a large bump but no flab. The baby is a healthy 4.4lbs at 32 weeks, which is bang on for a 7.5 - 8lb birth weight. Weight gain is a good thing, but so is keeping healthy. Try and eat a balanced diet, and take regular exercise. Don't whatever you do compare yourself to people who didn't gain very much, as that isn't necessarily the best thing unless they were very overweight to start with.

Thanks for all the replies. I was a size 8 with a normal BMI and like some of you I've gone from being a toned, exercise fiend to someone who can only manage carbs and sleep! I've had bad ms minus the vomiting which has meant I have felt the need to eat constantly. I'm going to try and start exercising again next week and lay off the comfort food. I guess I've never been this big before and it's a real shock, especially as I can't tell anyone yet so they must all think I'm turning into a heffer!! Fingers crossed it eases up and I balance out otherwise I'm going to be the size of a bus Shock!

None, I reckon for my first pregnancy. Not showing until 16 weeks and even then was all bump.

For my second pregnancy 3 years later, I had a hard time keeping it under wraps before 12 weeks. People were already suspecting!

4kg. What's that in pounds? Nearly 9 pounds.
I had quite a low end of normal BMI before, 18 I think. So looking at charts, 4kg is Ok for me.

nothings "abnormal" in pregnancy, in weight questions you will get both replys, some pregnancys loose some people gain, both are Normal. And if people do loose unitentionaly its not always a dangerous thing, ds2 was 9ib and perfectly healthy and no I wasn't overweight i had a bmi of 19. Ds1 I piled on over 4stone and he was born 6ib8. Each pregnancy is different. I don't think any person would want to loose weight in pregnancy, but it does happen due to illness. This is my 3rd I'm 9wks and havnt been weighed but I'm definatly rather puffy lol x

Put on about 4lbs in first trimester. Been away since week 12 and now week 15 so not sure since then. Determined to go slowly and steadily and not put too much more than 2-2.5stone. Fingers crossed

I was exactly the same as you, op. put on about 6 kg in 1st trimester, and only about 13 kilos altogether. Was capable if doing two things during the first 20 weeks or so - sleeping and eating white carb. Felt permanently nauseous, but no puking. I used to swim loads, but the thought actually made me feel more sick. Back to normal after 20 weeks though.

I put on about 5lbs, I was expecting more because I was eating ALL DAY, carbs and carbs and more carbs to keep the sickness at bay. I'm almost 14 weeks and haven't gained any more the past couple of weeks (even over Xmas!) so I think perhaps it's slowing down for a bit, hopefully. Everyone's different, everyone starts at a different weight so there's really no point making comparisons.

Lost 2kg (4.4lb) in the first trimester this time; last time I didn't lose or gain anything, but I had more nausea this time around so ate less.

Altogether put on 11kg in first pg, most of it in 3rd trimester (textbook, apparently); and this time I put on 13kg, a lot of it excess fluid (had polyhydramnios).

I'm confused to by my weight loss/gain so I've decided not to worry. It went something like this- weeks 10-12 stayed the same, week 13-15 lost 4lbs then 16-18 gained 5lbs. God only knows what my body is doing, going to weigh again today just out of curiosity but I'm not going to get hung up on it. My body knows better than I do lol x

You sound a bit like me - slim size 8 and a need to eat loads of carbs in the first trimester to stave off the nausea. I put on lots in my first trimester, but not as much in the second and third. In my first pregnancy, I gained about 15kg overall, but only about 3kg of that in the final trimester.

I know it feels like you're gaining loads of weight, but bear in mind that most of it isn't fat, even if it feels that way now! And you won't gain at the same rate for your whole pregnancy, the first trimester is particularly tough.

I put on about a stone too. Savagely hungry, I could've eaten all day, every day. Since then I've put on about another 1.5 stone and am heading for a total 3st gain. Hey ho. My sister put on 5!!!

I put on about 5lbs. I'd been on WW beforehand and think I shocked my body by starting to eat more lol. I'm 22 weeks now though and have gained 16lbs altogether. Damned Christmas chocolate...

None but I was already too heavy for my liking before I got pg. I think giving up drink had a massive effect on my weight tbh, and I probably eat better now I'm pregnant too although it's not really consciously. I actually lost a couple of pounds over Xmas but I'm not sure how.

Relax. I was very underweight before pregnancy. Put on 9 pounds in first tri as needed to eat to feel ok. Then weight gain slowed down. Gained 25 in total.

This time, excitably the same gain in first tri. Now at 32 weeks I have out on 18 pounds.

Last baby was almost a nine pounder.

You are likely to really lose your appetite as pregnancy progresses. In first tri, I was an animal. Now, I eat a fair bit, but molten have to really force myself, esp in the evenings, when all I really want is breadsticks and cream cheese!
