Best Travel Insurance for visiting America while 14 weeks pregnant?

I am going to New York for 5 days when I will be 14 weeks (which was booked long before getting up the duff!)

Can anyone recommend Travel Insurance they have used or maybe even claimed on for pregnancy-related medical issues while in the US? I have started to have a look around at various policies but it is going to take an absolute age to ring them all up or trawl through their small print for their policies on issues arising from pregnancy.

I am fit, healthy, have no other medical conditions and have been classified as low risk by my Midwife, but if a problem does arise the US is the last place in the world I want to be without adequate medical cover!

When I went we had an annual policy and was told as long as there were no complications it was fine to use their normal cover.

I double checked with my business insurance before I went on a trip to SF earlier this year when I was about 10 weeks. They said I was covered up to 32 weeks even if I hadn't mentioned it to them.

American express travel insurance is very good. No problems with travelling while pregnant with them.

I'd start with your current insurer, informing them that you are pregnant & ensuring they'll cover you.

If not, try an insurance agent, who will do all the checking out for you.

Good luck. And enjoy your trip!!

Ps I had to claim on my RBS royalties gold annual policy as I unfortunately had a m/c at 11.5 weeks & couldn't go on my trip Hmm

Thankfully I'd informed them when I was 6 weeks & was fully covered. And we re-booked the trip for a few weeks later.

I'm in the process of putting in a claim with AXA and all good so far - rang them prior to treatment and they were really helpful. I would make absolutely sure you're covered, though, and that they will arrange to pay the provider directly if over a certain amout.

I've just been to an ER (apparently the only option for quick treatment on a weekend) for a simple UTI in early pregnancy - weed in a cup, spent 5 minutes with doctor - and my bill was close to $1000. It's absolute madness.
