What did you forget to pack in your hospital bag?

Am 37+3 with DC2 and packing the bag Grin.

I didn't have a bag with DC1 until I got to the postnatal ward (fast and furious delivery), and all I remember is that there weren't enough babygros! I've been through a lot of previous threads on what to pack, but what have I probably forgotten this time? Or what would be nice to have? It's a C-section this time.

C sections can give you awful constipation so second time around I took little cartons of apple juice with straws. Good luck!

I was in for 4 days and wished I'd brought more spare nighties as it was hard to feel clean! You never know how long you're going to be in though. Next time (if there is a next time) I'll probably pack a big back of extras and leave it in the back of the car for DH to go and get if necessary.

Anusol for the piles. Had to send DH out to get me some as I was too embarrassed to ask the midwife!

Camera. Luckily hubby could take photos on his phone when the baby was born. Money for the hospital phone is also nice if you're staying in.

Camera. Reading material (interminable wait to be discharged). Spare top! (left in car). Ended up wearing DH's bright yellow Yellow Submarine t shirt as it was too baking hot to wear my dressing gown.

Also 37 + 3 with DC2, started mat leave today and just packed bag Smile Am trying to decide whether to take two sizes of clothes for baby - last time round what we had was far too big, so have bought much smaller clothes this time as scans have indicated another small baby. Have now started to wonder 'but what if she's actually a bit bigger?' - can't decide whether to start looking through my next size up baby clothes now!

Last time I din't have any drinks or snacks packed (was induced unexpectedly), so must stock up on some!

I forgot:

Flip flops (for manky-floored shower and toilet)
Lip salve (always get dry lips in labour)
Magazines

Sorry to hijack thread but how many sleep suits and vests did you guys pack? I've just packed 2 of each and thought I could send DH home to pick up more if kept in longer than expected. Does that sound reasonable?

Shampoo. Moisturising shower gel just makes hair look greasier (didn't think it was possible after 3 days in labour).

i packed 2 of each and ended up having to wash one twice.
(was only expecting to be there a day)

best to pack one for each 6 hours.

pinsent Think you need some more - baby poo and vomit gets everywhere!

MrsHoarder · 12/11/2012 13:46

pinsent: 2 of each plus 2 hats (DH got told off for not putting the hat on DS when dressing him). Then another 3 sleepsuits and vests in a bag in the boot of the car (along with more clothes for you to wear).

That means you don't have to cart loads of clothes around the hospital just in case, but your DH can easily grab more should you give birth at 6am and need more clothes by midafternoon.

I didn't forget to pack anything, but I did forget to wash the brand new black towels I had bought for myself. They were from
A cheap store ready to throw away if they got covered in blood and when I used them I was covered in black fluff - not the

I'd pack 2 bags. A labour / first 24 hours bag. Then a second one in case you stay longer than expected. Pack a note book and pen as you will think of stuff you want while you are there them forget as soon as anyone offers to bring you stuff. Hmm

Thanks for the advice regarding the amount of vests and sleep suits. I think
I'll pack some extra ones and leave them in the car.
