Am now 19 weeks and during the last two weeks have been waking up throughout the night with terrible puns and needles in my left hand, it goes completely numb and have to shake it awake for several minutes for it to come back to life! Amy ideas what is causing this and how I can stop it?

Is it due to having to sleep on your left side? I usually sleep on my front so sleeping on my left is really uncomfortable and I wake up quite a lot with my left arm aching from lying awkwardly on it.

One of several compression syndromes, most likely carpal tunnel affecting the median nerve. Is it your thumb and first two fingers or your smaller fingers?

Pregnancy often causes this, usually settles after delivery, may need physio or a splint to help in the meantime. GP!

I'm getting this too! My whole arm was dead and flopping about in the middle of the night this week... Really horrible, going to mention it at my MW appointment!

Oh I had this. so very painful. Pain at night. And then woke up with fingers in a fist and could not unclaw them !!!
In the end my GP gave me a steroid injection into the wrist ( sounds worse than it is, it was only minor pain) and it went away. SO WAS SO WORTH IT.
