Pregnancy

do ALL pregnancy vitamins contain Folic Acid?!

Due to previous complicated pregnancy my doctor prescribed me 5mg Folic Acid Tablets.
I'm only 5 weeks pregnant and would really like to take some pregnancy multi-vitamins but the only ones I can find contain 4mg of Folic Acid. In order to take them I've either got to end up with 9mg of Folic Acid in my system each day OR stop taking the 5mg that has been advised that I take.

Does anyone know of any pregnancy vitamins that DON'T contain Folic Acid?????

I'm also on 5mg folic acid. My gp said I can carry on with my normal folic acid in my sanatogen mother to be multi vitamins (which contain 400uG not 4g) as any excess we just pee out so no harm.

The recomended intake during pregnancy is 400micrograms (ug is the closet I can get on this pc), ie 0.4mg.
If you are really on 5milligrams (mg), and i understand that this is sometimes prescribed, I'd take both - the extra in the pregnancy multivits is tiny compared to the extra dose you have been prescribed.

DON'T take none pregnancy vits.

All the pregnancy vitamins have 400mcg NOT 4mg of folic acid, so you'd be taking in total 5.4mg of folic acid. That is completely safe.

I only ever took 400mcg of folic acid and ate healthily. As long as you definitely take your 5mg of folic and keep up your vitamin D intake these are the only supplements advised by the department of health, and not much Vit A. There are foods that contain folic acid like cereals and some vegetables so you would be getting more folic anyway if you eat these foods.

Thank you all for your valuable advice....I lost a baby 6 years ago through it having a neural tube defect which could've been caused by not taking folic acid before conception and the first 4 weeks. I'm just so scared about doing something wrong and not taking/eating what I'm supposed to and something bad happening again...it seems quite a bit of time to my first midwife appointment. I shall be going to Boots soon to stock up!! Thank you again
