MS and nausea question

Sorry this might be a bit TMI but seeking some advice for today...

I'm 9+5 and having all-day nausea, managing to keep it at bay by grazing and eating virtually non-stop, and resting in the afternoons.

last night I barely slept cos of a cold, and this morning was actually sick about 10ish, an hour or so after eating my cereal. Sad

the main question I have is - usually when you're sick, you avoid eating after, but obviously this is morning sickness and not the same beast! Shoudl I go back to my usual routine of eating little and often, or should I eat a bit less because of being sick? I've already managed a pack of crisps since being sick, and trying to drink plenty too, but fancy food even less than usual!

Any thoughts would be welcome!

Don't force yourself and end up being sick again, obviously, but if there's something you think you can manage I usually found that helped.

I wouldn't apply the same rules as a stomach bug. I tend to not eat for a bit after being sick but sometimes something different sits ok. I strongly reccomend ice lollies to help with hydration and to settle your stomach!

thanks, we bought some ice lollies and I keep forgetting I have them! Good advice. I find drinking water difficult, it tastes weird and seems to make me feel like I have a hole in my tummy!

Ice lollies help here too. Normally can't stand them. And a bit of banana or toast if you feel able.

I know that weird feeling with your tummy. Glad the suggestion helped! :)

As long as you can keep hydrated you'll be ok. Look at Pregnancy Sickness Support. If you are really sick and can't keep fluids down, (hyperemisis) or your wee goes dark or your breath smells of pear drops, then you need to go to A&E because you are too dehydrated and burning muscle (ketosis).

You should eat as much as you feel like. It's different from a stomach upset and you may actually feel worse/be more likely to be sick if you don't eat. The most important thing though is to drink as vomiting dehydrates you very quickly. Stick with regular small sips if that's all you can manage. You may find that fluid at a certain temperature (e.g. iced, or hot tea) stays down better.

I had very severe hyperemesis and the only time I could get anything in at all was immediately after throwing up. It was really disgusting but there was a sort of 15 minute window with less nausea and that was my only opportunity to try and keep hydrated so I had to use it. Didn't stop me ending up in hospital repeatedly though!

Do try to rest. I think there's a good chance that you progressed from nausea to vomiting today because you were tired. Hope it eases for you soon!

I have found that the only time the nausea goes and I can eat is after a vom/retching session. Breakfast cereal normally goes down ok for me...apparently nausea is brought on often by low blood sugar, but I find mine is more to do with the gap between putting any substantial amount of food in my tummy, as a sugar boost does nothing to stop me throwing up once the nausea kicks in :-(. So I'm trying 5 "meals" a day but often have to work up to the first one of the day slowly! Good luck, it's bloody wretched isn't it? X

Poor you, I was sick too but managed to eat granny smith apples and grapefruit solely. Ice lollies great idea. Also lying on your left side rests the gut and provides a bit of relief. You'll get through it but if you cant get anything down, you'll need to visit the hospital for a little pick-u-up.xx
