Waste of time sweep:( How fast can a cervix open from being closed - grrr

Hello

I am 38w and booked for induction next tuesday for possible med probs with baby. At 24 weeks I went into pre term labour and the consultant said my cervix was very soft and short, and they did not expect me to go full term.

I was induced with my first and ended up having epidural and tearing quite badly (they even asked if i had had any tribal piercings done 'down there' in the past - WTF??? Must have looked a mess) So, this time I was kind of preparing not to be induced, and was convinced all would go naturally. I have done the whole hypnobirthing thing, I have been taking mega strength sodding raspberry leaf tea, eating enough pineapple to take the roof of my mouth off, marching around with the 2 yo and dog, using pure clary sage oil, eating spicy food blah blah and so on.

Anyway, the MW caame today to give me a sweep and they couldn't really do anymore than prod my old cervix as it is tightly closed:( and they could not get through. So, looks like I'll be induced - which i suppose i shouldn't moan about.

Has anyone out there had a cervix which has opened a bit within a couple of days? I have another sweep on sunday booked, and would love to be deluded enough to think I could STILL go naturally.

Considering i had a comprimised cervix before i got P due to a previous LETZ (removal of cells by op) proceedure, she is sure a tough old bird to have hung in there. God, i know i should be grateful.

Sorry to whinge on - i just so wanted to get home asap to look after my 2yo as she is being left with in laws who are beyond stupid/useless (let her stir boiling tea, give her slice of cheese for lunch, i found said 2yo wandering in middle of lane, they are going to the BREWERY on way down to care for her, when the pissheads promised not to drink!!!! etc - oh, i'm on another subject now, i'll stop bitching)

Am really off now:) Sorry, am hacked off, fat, slow and bloody annoyed (i'm not even going to start moaning about DH, who i cannot get hold of - good job i'm not in labour)

Thank you in advance xx

I had a sweep at 40+3 with ds1 (second dc). Or rather, mw just jiggled a bit because cervix completely shut. That was on the Tuesday.

Went from irst contraction on the Friday at 6.30pm to having him at 9pm that night.

After the failed sweep I dtd with dh, and I did seem to have a show the day after and rather more frequent brandon hicks.

Yup, my cervix was tight as a button with dc3, my doc tried to do a sweep but said the same. They told me I was definitely not going into labour any time soon.

My waters went at 2am that night!

A cervix can go from completely closed to you holding your baby within a matter of hours. Certainly things could change completely by Tuesday!

For a second baby, the state of your cervix means nada. It can open up in hours, so chin up lass! Good luck.

I had a failed attemp at a sweep when I was 41+3. Another failed attempt 3 days later at 41+6. Had one at 42+1 which was successful and went into labour at 42+3

Thank you for your positive tales:) It's unlikely my old cervix will go at 38w I think, but it gives me hope - I'll be back on pineapple, RL tea, curry etc:) Got another one sunday, so will go for mega walk with dog then to. Again, thanks x
