Would you wait or would you spend the xmas fund?

10wks tomorrow (on dates) with DC2, got scan appointment through but it's not until 14wks...I don't think I can wait that long! I was 12+ with DC1 (but they moved me forward a week) and I know they are busy in this town but didn't realise I'd be waiting so long.

I don't think my nerves can take another 4 week wait. You can get a private dating scan for £80 and I am very tempted, but £80 is a lot of money in our house and would be most of our Christmas fund (DC's presents bought so not taking away from her). I don't know what to do!

Unless you are worried something is wrong I would keep the money. Why are you nervous?

For the dating scan only, I would wait.
I would be paying privately for the 12 week nuchal fold/blood tests though which are not available on the nhs where I live.

Congrats btw Smile

I don't enjoy being pregnant, I worry constantly that something is wrong. I am feeling a lot "better" the last 2 days which worries me. I know a lot of people who have miscarried/found very serious abnormalities on scans/had stillbirths. I'm just scared.

Nuchal was not available last time, this time it is, we have declined it for various reasons. I just want to know if there's a baby in there and if it's viable!

I might ring my friend who is a midwife and get her to talk some sense into me...

I know what you mean Lenny. I was convinced there would be nothing there at my 12 week scan as I had no symptoms.

Ring them up and see if you can move it. They get cancellations and if ive needed to move one it's never been a problem Smile

Declining the nuchal fold scan means that you aren't a priority for a scan (nuchal fold needs to be done is a given timeframe).

Could you change your mind on the nuchal and see if they can bump you up?

Hi Lenny, I am 10+3 today, we paid privately for a scan last week which cost us £100 and it's probably the best money I have ever spent! We had an early mc previously and even though I had no reason to think anything was wrong I had the same fears as you that they would scan me and no baby would be there etc! Thankfully everything was as it should be and it was a wonderful experience, now I can't wait for my 12 week scan! Also we then felt we could share our wonderful news with family and friends (as only my sister knew before this), we know that we aren't at the sacred 12 weeks yet but fingers crossed everything will be ok!

I'd be tempted to pay, as I am such a worrier that the wait would be awful for me. As I have such irregular cycles I luckily got my dating scan at just 8 weeks, and don't even know how people last to 12 weeks, let alone 14. Question is, would it stop you worrying, or would you start again the next day thinking something bad had happened? I found a doppler at 13 weeks was my best investment, as I could listen to him if I ever got concerned.

The thing about the nuchal would make sense. You couldn't get one on NHS here 2 years ago. We don't want to have one though.

I'm going to leave it a week and see how I feel, then I might see about having some money towards a scan as a Christmas present. There's no way I'd have a doppler, my mw friend would kill me for a start!

Oh, and thanks everyone for replies :) much appreciated!

As you say BeachLover, I think I'd probably start worrying again the next day so perhaps I should just try and be patient...have been feeling really sick today at work so that should hopefully be "symptoms" back then!
