Pregnancy

Really struggling with my bladder, help please

I'm coming to 16 weeks 2morow, but my bladder feels like crap!!!

Thought I had a UTI, so had antibiotics (was very painfull to hold on for the loo for more than 5 mins), which seemed to work. But for the past 4 weeks, when I stand up and walk, I have to pee every 10 mins or so. So bloody uncomfortable. Got to the point where I may start using pads.

I can only assume because I'm tiny,- (think Geri Halliwell when she was at her lowest weight, or a 5ft1 Victoria Beckham kinda size; I'm 5ft1 and was around 45kg, wearing size 11 year old kiddie clothing) - that munchkin has very little room to move.
Today, there does seem a lot more pressure on my bladder.

By the size of my belly, it looks like munchkin has already moved up.

Any ideas?

I can only think of not drinking so much, but I don't drink that much as it is.

Advice would be loverly. Don't have a mw app for another few weeks yet

Thanx

Have you checked you don't have another infection? My mw told me some women get them almost constantly, and if you don't tend to drink much that might actually make it worse.

You can get that checked at the dr, you don't have to wait til your next mw app. Only takes a couple of minutes, I think.

Hope this helps.

Yes get checked for infection by your GP. You may find in the first trimester you have to pee quite suddenly and quite a lot due to the hormones. But that should be settling down now.

I bet it's a UTI. Get them to test your urine.

Thanx ladies.
Even with the 1st lot of antibiotics, I was still peeing every 10 mins.
When not pregnant, it was every 20 mins/half hr - thats normal for me.
But will get it checked out again.

Aside from the UTI, have you ever been checked your pelvic floor? Could you ask your GP to be referred to physiotherapy? Going to the toilet every 20 mins is not normal, I would say. Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles may help you going a bit longer.

Further to my previous message, I hope you can read this link about incontinence. I hope it helps,

With you being pg, they maybe didn't give you such a strong antibiotic for your UTI as you would have had if not pg. It may be you need something stronger, or a different antibiotic. (This happened to me when pg with DD2, but with a chest infection - the second lot of antibiotics sorted it out and DD2 was fine :) ). I would pop back to the GP, with a urine sample.

I was watching this thread with interest as I've found that I need the loo very frequently as well, and actually went to the Dr yesterday to see if I had a UTI (she doesn't think so but is sending the sample to the lab). Is frequent urination a symptom of SPD? Have you been having other pains as well?

I hope now you have been diagnosed you can start on measures to feel better (sorry - I don't know much about SPD!)

Hi CarterGirl
Yup, being have pains too. The doctor pressed on my bladder, inbetween the pelvis, talk about painfull!!! From there she diagnosed SPD - only this afternoon.
Have been researching it this pm, the symptoms I have seem to match with SPD
I also have a lot of pressure on my bladder, feels like munchkin is sitting on it; even sitting down.

She asked for another urine sample; doesn't think its an uti, antibotics anyway for the second time, just in case.

I have a sensitive bladder anyway, this has just made it worse.

Hope this helps

Oh dear, poor you! I sometimes feel pressure on my bladder as you describe, but luckily it is not every day. It's really hard to tell when I need to go, as it feels like all the time! It's definitely 'normal' to get frequent UTIs during pregnancy for some women, but in my practice it takes a week to find out, which is really frustrating.

How can they treat your SPD? Will that help the pressure on your bladder? I do hope so.

Hi XmasBaby11
Have been told to take paracetamol, and it's working, can actually function normally now without immense pressure on my bladder. Problem is that paracetamol extra is the only one that works, which I tend to take 3 times a day.
The doc is refering me to the physiotherapy clinic.
Wish I read up about SPD before, as I have many of the triggers behind it; bad hips, disc issues etc.

When you say paracetamol extra - what exactly are you taking? If it is a paracetamol/aspirin combination then it is not suitable during pregnancy. If is paracetamol and codeine prescribed by the GP then that's fine.

I am glad I am not the only one that is weeing themself left, right and centre. I have a chest infection so when I cough excessively I wet myself. I too have brought some pads.

I should definately see your midwife about it and keep doing your pelvic floor excercises. Like you said, your baby is lying on your bladder so obviously putting extra pressure on your bladder.

UTI's are very common in pregnancy so try not to worry to much. Hopefully, they can give you some antibiotics for it. Some of them are safe in pregnancy. xxx

paracetamol extra: 500mg paracetamol and 65mg caffeine

The caffeine isn't actually a painkiller - it's added to wake you up and make you more alert when you have headache/flu symptoms. Caffeine is actually a bladder stimulant so won't help with that symptom and it really won't make any difference to your pain from normal paracetamol (apart from the placebo effect of saying 'extra' on the packet!)

Sorry, I beg to differ. Tried regular paracetamol yesterday while walking in London; takes the edge off, but still had a lot of pressure on the bladder, took the extra one, no pressure on the bladder. From my side, there is no 'placebo effect, and no extra trips to the loo'.
I'm also aware that the caffeine limit is 200mg, but I'd rather be taking that than codene.
