Lower back/bum/top of leg pain

I am 33 weeks pregnant and I am in A LOT of pain, mainly in kind of the top of my left bum cheek. It's only when I stand on my left leg, if I'm sat or lying down it's fine. But I have a 2 year old DS so sitting and lying isn't really an option. Walking is so painful and running is out of the question, which is making trips out difficult as DS is all over the place.

It feels muscular but I don't remember actually pulling anything. It's been there for a couple of days and if anything has got worse.

Can anyone offer any advice please - I can't deal with two more months of this. I never had anything like it in my first pregnancy and I'm getting pretty frustrated about my lack of mobility.

Thanks in advance...

Sounds to me like it could be sciatica. I had this with DD right near the end when she engaged and pressed on the sciatic nerve. I was offered physiotherapy for it, but declined as was so near giving birth anyway.
Maybe go and see your midwife/GP and they can possibly diagnose and refer you.
Very painful indeed, you have my sympathies.

I'm 38+4 and am getting this too. Midwife says the baby is pressing on a nerve and to take paracetamol if it hurts...not that paracetamol does much good! As you're 33 weeks I'd definitely speak to your midwife or GP.

Pelvic Girdle Pain

You have my sympathies, I'm 26 weeks and by the evening some days I can't walk.

You need physio and a support belt.

Thanks, it's almost certainly pelvic girdle pain. I saw the doc and he just said take paracetamol but I don't just want to take loads of pain killers for the next 2 months. I'm going to go back and ask for a referral for physio.

Thanks again...

I feel your pain! This time I've had this since about 13 weeks and it's horrid. Mine has improved since I finished work and have to walk less. I finally saw a physio on tuesday (36 weeks!) and she gave me a support belt (basically a HUGE bit of tubigrip). I thought it was sciatica but it's not, it's pelvic pain and pressing on the nerve.

Chase up the physio apt and emphasise how much pain you are in. I think they only fitted me in in the end as I did my back in last week and I left a very curt message saying I'd been waiting for months, was now in agony, so was I actually going to get an apt before I gave birth??? They called me back the following day!

One thing I found made a very big difference to me was changing my shoes. I tend to wear very flat, ballet-style pumps, which are supposed to be a no-no in pg. I couldn't find any of the two-inch-heel shoes that are the "ideal" type that I liked. Instead, I bought a pair from Clarks that have a fab supportive insole (originally v pricey but got them in the sale). Pretty much immediately I could tolerate walking for much longer, so I have lived in them for months now.

Hope you get some respite soon Smile.

I get this and have for years it's likely sciatic pain something pressing on your sciatic nerve. Worst thing you can do it stop moving around try to avoid picking heavy things up i used to get my niece to get up on the sofa to lift her so i din't have to bend to her height. Try paracetamol and some useful stretches are happy cat pose and childs pose (yoga) you can get short videos on you tube to show you them try to do them twice a day. You could wait weeks for physio and they will tell you to do this and send you packing.
