Oh god. Have had an uneventful pregnancy so far with no bleeding. Now bleeding slightly - not heavy, more blood-tinged discharge (sorry) at present. No cramps. Have phoned women's hospital who have said to just call GP/midwife in the morning. Anyone had this or got any experience of this? Thanks so much in advance, am totally panicking.

Have you had your 12 week scan? Was all ok on that?

One common reason for 2nd trimester bleeding is cervical erosion, is harmless, common in pregnancy and in some people on the pill, likely to show up after sex.

Make sure you get examined tomorrow and don't get fobbed off - in most areas you can still attend early pregnancy unit before 16 weeks where they can scan you, if they can't find a reason for bleeding on examination ask if they will scan you.

Thanks for replying - 12 week scan was all fine. Haven't had sex for weeks Blush but am trying to stay calm as it's not getting heavier. Will make sure GP does something tomorrow and doesn't just fob me off...

Call the EPU tomorrow... I bled throughout my pregnancy up until 16 weeks, sometimes a light bleed, or old brown blood, or full on worse than a period bleeding. I had an ultrasound every time with the EPU they were fantastic. I was terrified every time but reassured that there was no pain, no cramps nothing just bleeding. My DS is now 17months old and they never pinpointed the reason for the bleeding.

It's good you have no pain or cramping but call EPU tomorrow, I hope everything is okay and the ultrasound scan reassures you.

Get it checked out but I had this- they never did find out what it was (cervical erosion, blood clots in placenta and low lieing placenta all suggested).

It's not unknown as at least 3 friends had it too and baby was fine.

I'm dreading when I'm 14 weeks! I'm just 9 weeks and had two occasions of bleeding, light pink sometimes light brown. But I have sever cramps! I have had scans but this was before my bleeding started. I only bleed for about 15 hours both times then stop.but been a week apart. As I'm writing this I'm cramping! Iv felt so ill this pregnancy , my first one I never bled never had cramping :( xx

Thank you for thinking of me, Combine. Still bleeding very slightly and cramping a little. Have scan booked for tomorrow morning (they couldn't fit me in today) and have been advised to rest. Am MNing in bed. Still keeping everything crossed but cramps are not filling me with confidence.

Good glad you have scan booked. Cramping is not necessarily awful - if there is any blood in your uterus you will get cramps as your body is trying to expel the blood. I was told this by a sonographer in 3rd pregnancy after a bleed and I found it reassuring.

So it could be a small placental bleed, some people get that at this stage as the placenta has just taken over everything. Or it could be old blood from implantation - I had this at about 11 weeks in one pg, the sonographer could see a sort of bruise on the scan, it was not even near the baby, it was all very odd.

Keep us updated if you feel like it Smile

Thanks, that's very helpful and reassuring. I'd been worrying that cramps meant the worst. I'll keep you posted.

How did it go today?

Thanks so much for thinking of me! It was fine, the baby was kicking around! They couldn't tell why the bleeding had happened (it's stopped now) but did say the placenta was a little (but not very) low so could have been connected. There wasn't any blood in the uterus that they could see. Phew, and thanks for all the help and reassurance.

Oh that's great news, I'm really pleased. Make sure you have lots of rest for the next few weeks, you are probably feeling shaken up by the whole thing.

Yay - I am so pleased your baby is all well and kicking around.

Heres hoping for an uncomplicated rest of your pregnancy.

Thanks, Combine - yes, I'm going to take it a bit easier I think. I'd gone back to normal levels of hectic life since I stopped feeling sick and tired, but will make a big effort to take it easy...
