Anyone tried Maggie Howells Natal hypnobirthing Cd's?
I have decided to get a hypnobirthing CD from Maggie Howell but there are so many to choose from, should I go for the program with 4 Cd's and no book or should I get them separately with the book? and if so which ones? Please advice. I am getting more and more confused the more I am looking into it

Thanks!

I got Maggie Howells 4 CD programme Natal Hypnotherapy.
I bought it a bit late to be honest (was 37 weeks) so only listened to the first CD a couple of times. However I currently listen to the birth preparation one several times a week and I'm surprised at how much it's helped me to relax!

It's made me realise that giving birth is very natural and that by staying relaxed will help with it.

I didn't get the book though as I knew I wouldn't bother reading it. The CDs are enough for me. The birth preparation CD lasts about 45 mins and I feel good afterwards so I make time to listen to it. But I've so many child/birth/pregnancy books (well, 4) that I knew another book wouldn't get read.

I suppose it all depends on how much time and energy you want to put into it. I'm on mat leave and thought I would spend ages doing yoga, relaxing etc. etc. but in actual fact most the time I can't be bothered Blush, I've too many other things to do.

There is a thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/1281967-Natal-Hypnotherapy-CD

To which I've contributed my experience - gave birth 2 weeks ago to first baby!

I did the CD and book and it was fab! My labour was only 1 hour 50 mins, but I had the CD on the whole time on a portable player. DH said if he didn't know better he'd have thought I was asleep in the car on the way to hospital - and I was in very active labour and gave birth 11 mins after getting there! So I think it definitely helped calm me down!Grin

MariaAM - sorry you are confused over which CD to use - I tried to make them as tailored as possible. It is really dependant on how many weeks you are - if you around 32 weeks then I would recommend the birth preparation cd and book as the best combination. If you then wanted to have another CD you could buy the relaxing birth music or the labour companion cd nearer the birth.

KirstyJC - I am so happy that you had such a positive birth!

For any one that wants to explore hypnobirthing and take it seriously i highly recommend it!!! Lots of my clients that have tried it, have had the most amazing labours and have remained so focused, calm and controlled - far more so than those that havent!

If its something that you think might work for you definitly give it a go.... good luck and huge congratulations!

I was quite sceptical about this as I don't like the term hypnotherapy as it conjures up images of being "controlled" by someone else. But I got the pregnancy relaxation CD and have found it really useful. I listen to it every day and it really helps, especially if I am particularly worried about something. I'm going to get the birth preparation one too when I'm a bit further along (27 weeks now).
