Toilet Troubles!

Hi,

Sorry for the tmi - but could I have a quick bit of advice please?

Last night I woke up at about 3am and really needed the toilet for a "number two" (I've been suffering really badly with constipation of late).

I couldn't get back to sleep so I finally got up to give it a try and, sure enough, constipation but... to make it worse... when I really tried to go, I couldn't push properly. It's like the muscles down there simply wouldn't work - and no matter what I tried I couldn't go.

I've been constipated still all day and the pushing problem has got easier - but I'm worried it will happen again tonight.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

xxxx

I find I cant push as much as it makes my muscles in my 'business box' really ache.

I try just sitting and waiting/leaning foward/doing a toilet dance but it is very infuriating when all you want to do is poo and you cant.

I know what you mean - the "sitting and waiting/leaning foward/doing a toilet dance" was exactly what I was having to do last night - but no amount of squeezing, pushing, wiggling around would work!

if you sit on the toilet and lean foreward that relaxes your bowel a bit and that will help, other tips would be a cup of boiled water in the morning half an hour before you eat or drink anything else, drink it warm as you can it will get your bowel moving, and also fybogel is good to keep you regular, if your very contsipated may take a while- hope that helps x

I've suffered really badly with constipation this pregnancy, earlier I could go 4 days with nothing then have a really hard uncomfortable and sometimes painful poop.
I now have sultana bran for brekkie and try and shovel in some wholemeal toast after. At least two pieces of fruit during day and lots of fluids. But prob the biggest help has been a big glass of prune juice and lactulose before bed and another small glass of prune juice with brekkie.
The difference is amazing and I can go comfortably nearly every day.
Hope it improves for you it's hideous! X

If the worst comes to the worst, try sitting in a warm bath and going in there. Sounds revolting, but it might be worth a go (as it were).

Make sure you're drinking enough water - dehydration causes constipation.

Also try gently blowing out as you sit on the loo.

Conference pears are effective I find.

Ask your doctor for lactulose it works really well i take it as and when but you can take it up to 4 times a day if need be

A small glass of prune juice every day, plenty of greens (salad, cabbage etc) and if needs be allbran (though you don't need much), keep hydrated, and you can try probiotics (they make me worse, but others report success). There are things the doc can give you - like laculose. Most important thing is to relax when on toilet as the stress alone will hinder progress. Don't actively try and push. Leaning forward does help (I find myself leaning fwd then right back as LO really doesn't like being squidged).
