Hiya I'm a Hugh essential oil fan and use them most days.
Iv just bought a lavender oil and on the box it says consult doctor before use if pregnant, and on the jar do not use if pregnant.
Anyone got a clue why it wouldnt be advised to burn it when pregnant?

Thanks Hayley x

I think it will be fine in an oil burner, but maybe not on skin?
Not 100% sure but I've been sniffing it to relax and I'm 8 weeks pregnant - oops!

I have read (I'm no expert in this area) that some essential oils affect things like the menstrual cycle/ the uterus/ cause onset of menstruation, so the recommendation is to avoid them during pregnancy. However views on the safety or not of lavender oil seem to be mixed from the brief search I did. If the bottle specifically says consult doctor then they may just be covering their backs in case anything goes wrong. However, the bottle of lavender massage oil I have hasn't been used since I found out I was pregnant, as I keep forgetting to ask someone with medical knowledge about the safety or otherwise of using it.

Lavender is an enemgogic (sp) which causes uterus to contract. Not sure about usage in pregnancy, I have just avoided it. One friend used lots of lavender to bring on labour in her second child! It worked a little too well as she gave birth on motorway hard shoulder!!

It's so confusing feeling stressed sick and emotional tonight and I know lavender burnt will help relax me.
Iv read a bunch of articles on the net all with totally conflicting views! Guess it's probably safer to not use it just encase :(
Gosh had no idea there were so many dangers in pregnancy, i can't keep up
