Anyone else still waiting for their 'July baby'?

I'm 41+5 and just about to eat an entire fresh pineapple. I know it won't make any difference, but psychologically I want to think 'I tried everything' before I have to be induced. Anyone else still waiting to meet their LO?

you're not quite on your own...me too...hello

I was induced with DC1 at 42 weeks so am fully expecting the same this time. The induction last time wasn't too bad so i'm (probably foolishly) expecting the same this time so i'm pretty relaxed about it.

I do find it a pain not being able to make plans more than a day in advance.

Hello there! Thank you for making me feel less alone, and for your reassuring story of induction. All of my friends who've been induced have had awful experiences so I'm dreading it. Hospital wanted to induce today but I've asked them to hold off until Wed, when I'll be 42 weeks (hence the pineapple eating and the fact I just went out for a walk in my PJs)

And yes, my most used phrase at the moment is '[insert time/place of the plan] sounds lovely, but in the nicest possible way, hopefully I won't be there'

Me too! I'm still waiting! I thought I was the only one...I was feeling very lonely. I was due on the 30th, and have been trying everything to get things started naturally. Quite bad period type pains this morning though and a funny sensation that might have been waters last night, but its not come to anything, so I don't think it was. Boo.
Hope you are hanging in there - I'm off for a walk round the block to try and get things moving. Totally sympathise with the not being able to make any plans!

Still nothing here. Hilarious moment in the middle of the night though.

Me: Owwww!
DP: What? Are you in labour? What can I do?
Me: No, you just hit me in your sleep, you doofus
DP: Damn, I thought baby was coming. 'night then.

I'll be walking to the shops to buy another pineapple soon. Good luck sparklytoes and BarStoolLona

Ha ha! I hope the pineapple works. I might go and buy one actually - do you not need to eat tons of it though for it to have any effect? Raspberry leaf tea anyone...?

PrincessJenga · 09/08/2011 12:42

I ate a whole pineapple in one sitting yesterday and intend to do the same today. Have also seriously overdosed on Rasberry Leaf capsules, have had three curries in a week, attempted sex last night (bump makes it 'interesting'!), loads of walking... none of it works does it?

I'm trying to move on to 'acceptance'. I will be induced tomorrow. No, it's not the lovely homebirth I'd hoped for, but baby will be here soon. We're going out for a meal tonight (thai curry!) as our 'last date before baby' and it's kind of nice to know that for sure after the last few weeks of uncertainty

I'm not waiting for a July baby but one that was due 2nd Aug, can I join in? I'm trying to plan lots of exciting things for this week just so sods law happens and I won't get to do some of it. This approach isn't working. All of my antenatal class friends have either given birth or are being offered strech and sweeps (some were due after me!), I won't be able to have one until thurs......i'm fed up and gutted.

Not a July baby for me but I was supposed to have a November baby many moons ago and he didn't appear until 7th December, at 40+16, waters went at 40+14.

Pineapple, curries and walks didn't help. PIV sex didn't work (because I was so big the mechanics were impossible, however my waters broke after a manually inspired orgasm (apologies for the TMI)!

can I join you too? Was due yesterday and 40+1 today. Have tried everything since last week raspberry leaf/sex/spicy food/pineapple almost one a day/long walks...and still nothing. Felt some tiny contractions on Sat which showed at the CTG at the hospital and then few more on Sat night but all stopped on Sunday. Being overdue is news to me as I have 2 DSs and they both came few days before due date, I suppose as its a girl this time the princess is taking her time :)

Waiting is a killer I must admit though...If nothing happens by tomorrow I am tempted to try the orgasm trick IssyStark Grin

Tempting Issy, tempting... Grin

I got a few Braxton Hicks straight after today's pineapple, but nothing else. There were lots of knowing looks from all women of childbearing age as I bought it though.

I have friends coming round in a few minutes, they're going to think I'm bonkers as I bounce on my ball while they all drink tea and eat all the cakes I'd made for the homebirth midwives. Ho hum.

In a way it's nice knowing tomorrow is 'it'. I have had a sudden surge of 'sorting' energy and have hemmed the curtains I hadn't finished making, cleaned the whole of downstairs of the house (stairs look too intimidating right now!) and started filing the paperwork from our house move. I'm still not happy about being induced though. DP and I are going to repack the hospital bag after our friends have gone. We weren't expecting to use it so now have to check that it really does have everything we need in it. Any tips 2nd/3rd/4th timers? What did you forget to take that I must ensure is in there?

Good luck tomorrow PrincessJenga, if something happens tonight, would you still have to go in? I'm booked in for a home birth as well, its rubbish that this time pressure is on isn't it? The mws have said they would still come out after 42 weeks but would prefer it if I went into hospital.
I've just bought 2 massive pineapples from the shop, got a couple of sympathetic looks from ladies in the queue! I'm halfway through the first one and fully intend on eating the whole lot today. If nothing else, at least it makes me feel like I am doing something.

Thanks Sparkly. If something happens tonight the midwives will still come out to me but they've said tonight's the last night they would. I've read on here that they can't refuse to come to you later, but I'm not sure how true that is or how comfortable I'd feel insisting they came to me.

I don't feel any differently today than I have any other day though so I'm not hopeful of anything happening tonight.

DP and I had a long chat over dinner and it turns out neither of us are happy about the induction tomorrow (I thought he wanted it; he thought I wanted it) so we're going to do more research tonight and then go to the hospital with a long list of questions tomorrow. If possible we'd rather wait a little longer and let baby come when he's ready.

I know what you mean about the pineapple. I wasn't eating it as I thought it would work; I was eating it so I knew I'd tried!

just butting in to say - good luck - I know how you feel having gone overdue with all mine (early pg with no 4 at moment) induction is not so bad although it is frustrating not to come naturally.

My no 3 felt like she was coming every evening for a week and I went to bed always thinking I would get woken in the night with it starting properly and always woke up at 7 cross that another night had gone by!! Had to be induced at 41 + 5 as she had stopped growing.

If you do go for induction take lots to do/read as often takes ages/a couple of go's to get you started.

Good luck, such an exciting time x

Can I join? I'm cheating a bit because my due date was 03/08, but all the august mums i've been talking too are due in late august so there's no one to share my desperation!
I'm so sick of people frantically answering the phone then sounding dissapoointed when they realise i just want to chat :(

PrincessJenga · 09/08/2011 21:35

Hahah, HappyDays and rooks I know exactly what you both mean! There's been a different 'feeling' or 'twinge' every night for the last two weeks so DP and I always go to bed convinced we'll have a disrupted night and then wake at 7am disappointed! The phone thing is soooooo annoying. Friends and family answer their phones faster than they ever have before and then sound gutted when I just chat and I've had more 'hey, how are you?' texts this week than EVER BEFORE.

Thanks for the luck Grin

Let us know how you get on tomorrow princess, I'd be really interested to know how your questions are answered. Mw advised me last week that if I wasn't comfortable with induction, we could look at regular monitoring instead. I also read somewhere that you should ask about a bishops score before an induction. Apparently, it gives a good indication of how effective it might be. Might be worth asking about it if you were unsure? Good luck!

PrincessJenga · 09/08/2011 23:22

Thanks for that. I'd never heard of Bishops Score but have just googled it and found this. I've printed that and a copy of the NICE guidelines to take with me tomorrow.
