What on earth is a BFI antenatal appointment? (Chester hosp)

Wondering if anyone can help - I have an antenatal appointment next week which is my "30 week BFI appointment" but I have no idea what this is. I did ask on the phone when I made the appt and was told to look in my notes - all it says is we have a BFI appt and will complete the BFI documentation. Can anyone shed any light on it?

I'm at the Countess of Chester hosp if that makes any difference.

I just googled it, and as far as I can tell, it's to encourage you to breastfeed baby. Here's a link www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/ifr20.pdf
Hope that helps.

Thanks - I did try googling but just got things like Business Forum something or other. Thought it might be Breast Feeding/Baby Friendly ... What a bloody waste of time, I'm still feeding DD and training to be a breastfeeding counsellor!

I reckon it would just be a normal chat with your midwife but about breastfeeding?

BFI standards say that every woman should be given the opportunity to talk about breastfeeding by 30 weeks of pregnancy.

I bet they are trying to become BFI accredited or have just been made that and are trying to tick boxes!

The documentation is just discusing various points (useful for many though) such as keeping baby close, rooming in, feeding cues, problems with dummies and so on

Ah okay, thanks. Appreciate it's useful for many, just think it's a waste of both our time - it says in my notes I'm still bfing DD.

On the plus side it will be useful for my course to see what kind of info women in the area are given about bfing :)
