Does Queen Charlottes routinely test you for Group B Strep? If so when?

Does anyone know if Queen Charlottes tests you for Group B Strep and if so, when they do this?

I don't believe NHS hospitals do it at all unless your urine sample shows up with something.... Hopefully someone here can be more specific but if you never had your urine tested (booking appointment does not count) that means you have never been tested, this is what 2 of my MWs said which does not make full sense because Strep B is a swab test.

I had DD at QC 3 years ago - no swabbing occurred.

Now 26 weeks with DC #2, also at QC & I've not been swabbed. So I's say no it's not routine (but I don't have my notes to hand to check if it's coming up)

No they do not unless you are seeing a consultant there privately. You can request and pay for a test there privately if you wish.

With last pregnancy I paid £32 and did a private test - they send you the swab and you post it to them.

Got the details from www.gbss.org.uk/content.php?section_id=3&sub_id=2&content=Testing%20For%20All

Ok, thanks for the info, sounds like I will have to go for the private test, helpful to know this and where to get it from so thanks again!

I've had 6 children at QC & they've never routinely checked for it. However when i was at the prem clinic i mentioned to the doctor i had thrush (no big deal as i always get it) but she wanted to take swabs anyway.
When i saw her next time she said that i had tested + for Group B Strep. Wasn't a shock for me as i was told i had it in one of my other pregnancies.
She put an alert sticker on my folder incase i went into pre-term labour before my c-section.

I'm having my baby at Queen Charlottes and my midwife said she will do a swab at around 37 weeks. How to get it done free is to say you think you may have an infection. They will take a swab and in the lab automatically check for Group B.

Hope this has helped.
Lou
