crib/cot/travel cot advise please!

My baby is due early March and I am trying to decide what to do about getting a crib/cot. I am living temporarily overseas but in July (when the baby is 4 months) will be moving back to the UK for a couple of months before moving again. I am trying to decide what is the best sleeping option for our baby. If I get a moses basket then it will most likely only last 3 months and I will have a month here needing a cot which I will then not be able to take with me.

I was wondering whether there are any travel cots that are good enough to use as an everyday cot right from birth? That way she would be able to have the same bed throughout all this moving around before we are stable again and we can look into something more permanent.

Any help with this or other ideas would be great! Thank you :)

could you use the carrycot part of your pram? some are suitable for overnight sleeping. ds was massive and fitted in his carrycot until he was 6 months. that was only during the day though, i co-slept at night. good luck with the move!

This is what I bought - the "arm's reach" it is brilliant - works as a travel cot/co-sleeper or stand alone cot/crib:

www.sierradistribution.co.uk/universal.asp

There are lots of cheap ones online in the US if you can get one from there - I ended up paying around $150 for the Universal:

I love it.

Ikea do a small cot, which you could use from birth - its about £40 including the mattress.

the mattresss on travel cots are very thin. I always end up putting down extra balnkets when we use it for DS. The moses basket or carrycot should last you 4 months unless baby is HUGE!

Thanks all.

Lucy101, have been looking into the arms reach, looks really great. Do you know anything about the 'mini' compared with the universal?

Thanks

Hi Nello - the only difference between I think is that the mini is smaller... which means it won't be in use so long. Then I found that the prices weren't much different between the two sizes (if I got a discounted one from the US) so felt the larger one was much better value.

I have my 4 month old DS in a hauck travel cot. it can take a normal cot mattress so you could take it with you when you move and just get a new mattress. I got ours from argos but you can also get them in tesco and various places online. hope this helps and good luck with your lo!
