Pregnancy

Wardrobe crisis way too soon

Quick question - is it normal to not be able to fit into my jeans, skirts etc at 6 weeks!! Do you really gain weight that quickly?! Mind you it could be bloating from wind as my digestive system has gone on strike! Boobs gone up a cup size already. This is my first pregnancy - please tell me I'm not on my own! Hardly anything in my wardrobe fits and can't believe I'm going to have to buy new stuff already.

I puffed up at 5 weeks as my Dad noticed the bump, I'm quite skinny though.

I was in maternity jeans from 8 weeks with both my pregnancies. As I tend to wear quite fitted clothes there was no way even a little bump would get in them. Thinking about it though, I only wear trousers, no skirts of dresses that would probably allow more room for a bump.

I didn't know about them at the time, but if I was to get pregnant again I'd definitely get one of those bump band things (I don't know what they're really called). They look good.

I'm about 6 weeks too and my boobs have blown up - I'm bursting out of my bra, which is a welcome change after my boobs shrivelled away to nothing after DS1 and 2!

I don't feel like I have a bump yet, though I wear quite stretchy clothes, jumper dresses, leggings etc.

I know I was in maternity jeans when I went for my 12 wk scan with DS2 though.

My jeans are quite fitted so I guess that's the problem. I reckon water retention and wind is mostly to blame...although my waist does seem to have thickened higher up. Is thgis the fartiest time ever or what!? DP is horrified at me!

NorthernLurker you might be right. I had IVF - they transferred 2 embryos. Will find out on monday at 7 week scan.

Mine was water retention, I couldn't fit into my jeans by 8 weeks, but then all of a sudden about 14 weeks my shape totally changed, I hadn't realised but my cheeks had gone puffier too, so that's definately all it was. Good luck for your scan! Xxx

I had awful digestive bloating and was in maternity trousers quite early on (8 or 10 weeks I think) but I justified it by saying I'd want to get a good long run out of them!

My belly was really sensitive to pressure from 6-12 weeks too, and then when the hormones and ms settled, I think it shrunk a little before becoming more baby bump shaped!

At 25wks the wind seems to have settled to intermittent gales!

I felt huge and bloated from almost the moment I found out I was pregnant. I think it was mainly air but it's horrible! I feel for you. Unfortunately I was still way too small for maternity clothes and I didn't really get a proper bump till about 18 weeks, I am only now starting to look pregnant rather than chubby at 22 weeks. If you're anything like I was you'll need to find an interim solution, so that you don't feel horrid for the next few weeks. I found cheap H&M dresses and tights/leggings made me feel SO much better. Buy things that will work when you have more of a bump too. I was sceptical about buying too much 'middleground' stuff but I felt so much better when I had.
Wind does get better though I let go a reall loud one last night that caught me competely by surprise. Have explained to DH that pregnancy is NOT sexy. Like he needed telling!

I am 19 weeks and still fit into my jeans. You probably have water retention. By 6 weeks your fetus is measuring less than 1/3 inch, so it cannot be baby weight yet imho. Try to reduce intake of salty and sugary foods and move around a lot. If you do yoga, I found that inversion postures (aka shoulder stand) really help to reduce water retention. Good luck!

I had a bump at 6-8 weeks with this pregnancy and my last and both pregnancies have been twins. Good luck at your scan, at least you know there might be a chance of it being twins, we had no idea!

I think it sounds normal :)

I don't think at this stage it is weight gain as such, as PP have said it is probs more water rentention :)

With my DD i was wearing maternity trousers at my 12 week scan and was quite big, but i ound it very noticeable as i was only an 8ish at the time.

I dread parts of my next preg. My boobs didn't go up with DD at all, but i am already a G cup! lol Can imagine how funny i looked with a size 8 body, G cups boobs and a bump! lol So hoping boobs don't go up with next PG otherwise they are going to be even more massive!!! lol

Thanks girls. Glad I'm not on my own. It seems to get worse as the day goes on so water retention and wind seem like the culprits. My tummy and hips are all wobbly! Will see what loose dresses / leggings I can find in the january sales!

Enjoy the sales Xmas Grin

I was the same with DD. When I was less than 3 weeks, a colleague of DH's saw me out cycling and rang to ask if I was pregnant. It took another week before I even realised my period was late and it might be wise to POAS..!

I felt massive early on, but all bloating really. Managed to stay in my pre-pregnancy jeans until about 16 weeks but was so glad to finally give them up and be comfortable when bending/leaning etc. I bought a few things (mainly tunic style tops) in a size bigger than I usually am for that interim between looking a bit tubby and actually getting a proper bump, I'm sure it's not wasted money as it'll take probably take me a while to get back to pre-pregnancy size (if it ever happens!)
