First Pregnancy and Antenatal class what to expect

Hey everyone very proud to announce im going to be a mammy and baby due in July edd 15/7/11. On 17th December ive to go get a antenatal check up, my letter said ill get blood tests done. Will i be getting a scan at this meeting also?? Il be 10 weeks then.

Mummy, is this your booking appointment with your MW or have you already had a MW assigned to you?

In most areas your first growth scan is about 12 weeks however some areas do offer a Nuchal Scan before that.

You could try joining the MN Antenatal Club for July 11 and seeing what's happening to the others.

Also, if you sign up for the NCT Stepping Stones they give you good information on what should happen when.

oh it would be my mw appointment, and i think thats were il meet the midwife that will be looking after me and the baby, your prob right 12 weeks sounds bout right to get a scan then. im so impatient tho just wanna see him or her on the screen lol. thankyou for you reply xx

At your booking appointment they usually take your health history, the family health history, not very detailed though and talk about where you would like to give birth.

You can ask about the options, one hospital near to me has a great homebirth team and the labour ward but no MW led birth centre, the other hospital has homebirth, a birth centre and a new maternity hospital.

Be aware you may need to have made decisions about antenatal screening and the initial decision of where you'd like to give birth by the booking in appointment. I know a lot of people get surprised by being asked for decisions at the first appointment and haven't done any research on it or thought about what they'd like to do.

Agree with Japh, you will probably be asked so its a good idea to read up before you go and decide if and which screenings you might have. You will probably be asked about where you'd like to give birth, but you should be able to change your mind later.

I had my booking appointment and scan in the same appointment at 10 weeks. This was with the midwife at the hospital and is standard practise in this area. I had to decide which hospital at the appointment where I told my GP I was pregnant.

How such things work really seem to depend on where you live.
