8 Weeks Today - Heartbeat and Bleeding

Please help!

I had a scan on Tuesday...all fine, baby measured 1.3cm, heartbeat 159bpm, all looked fine.

Started getting pink discharge yesterday and its now got red blood in it. Not heavy, just what would have been the discharge is now streaked with blood and pink discharge and not the normal creamy colour. No period pains.

Phoned EPU and they said to go up in morning but they probs won't rescan me again so early but will do a blood test for HCG Level. Not sure that will put my mind at rest.

Very worried, any views on this please? Thanks all. xx

Spotting is quite common - I had a week of brown spotting around week 8 and I am now in week 27, and everything seems fine.

Rest loads and good luck!

I had bleeding early in my pregnancy, at about 9 weeks. Scared the life out of me s i thought the worse....now am 36 weeks.

Bleeding early on is apparently normal....take it easy and don't do too much! Good luck!

Thank you very much for replying. It seems to be all blood now but very light in colour, not dark red. Very frustrating and worrying. x

Oh also thought I'd mention that I have a virus...cold, bad chest and horrendous cough. Could this be causing the bleeding? x

Was your scan internal?

Report

Hi Banana, no the scan was abdominal.

Just an update, went to EPU today and had an internal examination...basically doctor said i have a big cervical erosion and my cervix was closed. She said the cervical erosion won't go for entire pregnancy.

Anyone had any experiences with cervical erosion? Doesn't sound too good.

I had bleeding early on (bright red) quite alot that would just slow down and stop pretty much by the time i got to the hospital, they finally (after 3rd time of bleeding) put it down to a cervical erosion so please dont worry.

I have what is assumed to be cervical erosion (I haven't let the midwife look and bless her, she hasn't insisted! Smears and such like give me the absolute heebies and they have eliminated everything else) and as far as I'm aware it's harmless. Just a patch that bleeds, basically and a nuisance more than anything else.Sounds worse than it is.

I had a very heavy bleed at 7 weeks, went in that night for an early scan and despite assuming the worst, there on the screen was the bean, heartbeat flashing away.

I bled again the following week but decided after talking to the EPU on the phone that I wouldn't go in again for a scan as I was confident it was just the same again.

Just had my 12 week scan and all is fine but if I had heavy bleeding again I would consent to an internal. Having said that, I have had a bit of brown coloured discharge today but am quite relaxed about it. If I had any pain, etc. or different symptoms I would contact the EPU straight away though.

Will be wearing old pants throughout this pregnancy, however! Grin

i was like you bev, excpet all of a sudden it did stop...i also had what turned out to be an infection and after the antibiotics had finished my bleeding never happened again so i think maybe it was to do with that too.

Hi
I had a very full bleed at 6 wks and assumed pg was over. It lasted 6 days, was red, heavy but clot free which seemed odd. Anyway scan showed peanut with hb. Consultant put bleed down to polyps which I was due to have removed but I got pg a bit quick, whoops Grin
Was amazed how common bleeds are in pg. Keep the faith

Around half of all women bleed in pregnancy and while it's not 'normal' it is common. Cervical erosions are quite a common cause of this sort of bleeding. It's just a sore patch where the cervix has closed but some of the more sensitive skin from the neck of the womb is still exposed and has become irritated and is bleeding. It's nothing to worry about.

Ah thanks for your support messages. I have to say I am more relaxed about this now. I have 12/13 weeks scan on 13th December so will hopefully see little crumble on the screen again but obviously bigger and looking more than a blob! These first 12 weeks are a worrying time hey. Thanks again. xxx

I have had bleeding / spotting in both pregnancies - ds is almost 4, dd is 7 weeks. they presume its from a cervical erosion and described it to be as like a wee graze that bleeds sometimes. Nothing at all to be worried about and ime not at all dangerous to teh progression of the pregnancy.

Hi there.

I am still bleeding, and today its got more. It is basically what would have been discharge is blood. I have no real pain, just the odd twinge here and there. I am still suffering with a bad cough so wondering if that is irritating the erosion.

Will be going back to EPU on Monday and demanding a scan as I'm not sure I can wait til 13th December to know what is going on.

I've looked this up on google and from some sites it says that an erosion will only cause spotting, but i'd say that what i have is more than spotting. Any advice?

So worried.

Sorry, no advice as I haven't suffered myself but wanted to say am thinking of you and I'm sorry you're going through such a stressful time. Fingers crossed the scan on monday helps put your mind at ease. Take it easy today and rest up. When I had small bleed early in my first pregnancy, around 6 weeks, I was told to rest up for as much as possible.

Hi.

I had 2 quite sudden bright red bleeds with clots in early pregnancy (am now 35 weeks). They were exactly like my previous miscarriages started like.

After far too much research I found a statistic which kind of helped me - if you have a bleed you have a 50%/50% chance of things going well. However, having seen the heartbeat is a very positive sign and swings things in your favour considerbly.

The first 12 weeks or so are indeed the worst of the whole pregnancy. Lots of people have been through something similar and now have gorgeous babies to show for it, so please don't think its all over. Keep the faith and keep looking after yourself. Big hugs. x

Thank you for your messages. Its so annoying! No blood for most of day today, not even discharge, then went wee about an hour ago and the discharge all blood again. So annoying. Will let you know how I get on tomorrow. x
