Anyone had a UTI after 30 weeks?

I was told today that I have another UTI (had one around 14 weeks too). I have been in hospital twice with preterm labour mainly strong and very painful regular contractions. This was not picked up then (10 days ago) and only was today with a routine appointment with midwife. She is saying that all my agony with these contractions could be due to this so I am now on anti biotics. Any experience of views would be appreciated. I have been out of my mind since 30 weeks (now nearly 32) thinking I was going to have him early. Would a UTI cause contractions and at 30-32 weeks would I be getting up to pee in the night about six times or would you say that was excessive and perhaps the UTI?

Hello I had one at 33 weeks which developed into a kidney infection which was horrible anyway they prescribed antibiotics and that seemed to do the trick, when I went into labour they took a wee sample and told me that I had a UTI and that was why my contractions were so bad, I was a bit annoyed as my midwife hadn't bothered to test my wee the week before, I think you need to make sur that they test you regularly as you need to get rid of it before the baby wants to pop out!

I was going to the loo the same amount of times as you and my wee did smell a bit weird (kinda sweet) but it's easily treated and I would expect the antibiotics to work quickly.

Good luck with everything

Gosh chilemia that is awful. Can I ask do you remember what your symptoms were besides painful contractions? Also how did you know it had gone to a kidney infection (this is my worry as I do have back pain).

I have just finished a course of antibiotics for UTI, I am 36 weeks. My symptoms were pain in my side, regular weeing (not burning for me), back pain.

Finished course and had another test, o results yet and it was neally 2 weeks ago, so guessing all normal. But still have those symptoms, so presume they are pregnancy related rather than UTI.

No idea about contractions sorry, I haven't had any of those.

Thanks for the reply nunnie. I am on day 3 of the antibiotics and still have a lot of the symptoms so I cant tell which ones are pregnancy related and which are the UTI...I guess I was hoping that the real pain was the UTI so I could get through the next 8 weeks more comfortably..looks like its not to be :-(

Hiya, the only clue I had initially was that my wee smelt kinda sweet (I was wee'ing a lot anyway and I had a bad back) I knew somethimg else was wrong as I was vomiting a lot (and I knew it wasn't morning sickness as that had gone by about 14 weeks) I also felt as though I was getting flu (without the usual cold that goes with it) you'll definitely know if it's a kidney infection, luckily I got seen really quickly and got the antibiotics quickly enough that I didn't end up in hospital (which I'd heard was pretty common)

My advice would be to make sure your midwife checks for uti's at every visit, also although my contractions were bad and I didn't have the easiest of labour with an infection we are all different so don't worry about the pain, my little DD is 6 months old now and I am so proud of what we've both achieved so far, take it easy and get some rest.

I had a UTI at 40 weeks and gave birth at just over 41 weeks so was on antibiotics immediately before and after the birth.

I had no burning on passing urine. I just felt really unwell (flu like symptoms), was going to the toilet all the time and had lower abdominal pain (that didn't result in contractions). I asked for a test of my urine at my 40 weeks appointment and that came back positive for leukocytes.

I then had a further infection a couple of weeks after the birth as well (I was catheterised for a ventouse delivery).

Thanks ladies. I havent had any burning with weeing either but I have had a great deal of pain. I got myself some urine strips and have been self testing as I dont see the midwife for another two weeks. I finish my antibiotics today and protein is still showing up very strongly. I am a bit worried now that the anti biotics are not clearing it up. :-(
