REALLY sensitive teeth which are getting quite painful

I have sensitive teeth at the best of times - have to use certain toothpaste or am in constant sensitive pain, struggle to drink any drinks with sugar/acidic fruit in, can't eat some fruits as they are too acidic and hurt teeth for days after, pain with hot/cold foods etc. I get this all the time every day and dentist sayd nothings wrong, I just have sensitive teeth (infact, she always say what good teeth I have when I go which I presume is partly due to being kind to them with my food choices).

I've been getting increasingly uncomfy teeth over the past few weeks and it's got to the point now where there are certain teeth that hurt to brush (even gently) and I have to swig mouthwash around my mouth in a certain way or it hurts.

There was a period of about 6 weeks where I could barely clean my teeth as toothpaste made me gag, and I have been having to eat ALL THE TIME to try and help with nausea (which has been bad) including when I've woken up at night, and having to have what I can manage as I got so restricted as to what I could get down (and sugary stuff worked well). I'm just imaagining my mouth being a complete state and needing lots of work....but I'm not sure if it's just increased sensitivity to already very sensitive teeth. ANyone with sensitive teeth out there suffer from tooth pain that was fine and didn't need any dentist work?

I'm a bit scared of the dentist at the best of times, let alone when I'm still suffering from nausea and feeling very emotional and i've never even had a filling in my life...I also HATE taking antibiotics as they really upset my system and would do anything to try and avoid taking them - does dental work usually involve needing antibiotics?

I guess I do need to go to the dentist but wanted to put it off a week or so when hopefully I feel a bit better (nearly 14 weeks now)..

I have had a similar problem. Had 22 weeks throwing up everything I ate so had to constantly suck sugary sweets to get through the day. I was advised not to brush my teeth as the acid from my stomach would do more damage so keep using the mouthwash. I eventually went to the dentist last week as I had sensitive teeth by this point and was told all is ok and to pop back after the baby is born. The dentist confirmed that your teeth can become more sensitive but that is due to your gums. I too hate the dentist but honestly they were really gentle and understood my anxiety as I too cannot tolerate antibiotics and was terrified of any infection. I have now switched to voltage sensitive as this is the best for me, followed by dentyl mouthwash which has really helped when I feel sick or have been sick. Good luck.

try just rubbing in toothpaste. as long as it has flouride in it, it doesn't matter if it's tescos own brand or colgate

thanks nov75 - have tried colgate sensitive but makes my teeth hurt - I use sensodyne. Might try changing the mouthwash though. SO glad you had pain with senstivity and it was nothing. DH just says I must go sooner rather than later or I might get more problems that require more major works...I know he's right but still...

ben5 am rubbing in toothpaste several times a day!!

Theres a thing called sensiblok you can buy from superdrug for around £7, its a little tube with a wand, you paint the stuff on the sensitive teeth, it really works, and works for ages afterwards. It tastes a bit bitter and acidic, but get some, its fab,

Sensiblock is great. I couldn't clean my teeth properly without vomming for my whole pregnancy. Just rubbed toothpaste on with my fingers some days. Used Sensodyne as well and it seemed to help.

Hi angels. In the same boat and finally got my courage up and paid to have a dental hygienist clean my teeth. And they don't hurt as much now. I had accumulated a lot of plaque on my teeth and that was making them hurt much more than usual. HTH
