Where can you get a scan

Hi everyone
A friend of mine would like to get a 12 week scan and for various reasons would like to go private. I know that the Fetal Medicine Centre in London does them but it is very expensive (£150) and I am wondering if there is anywhere that does a 12 week scan (and nuchal measurement/blood tests for Downs etc) at a more reasonable price.

Hi, depends on what area you live in i think, prices vary quite a bit.
I went for an early scan and found the place i use through google, i looked at several sites first though and compared prices and packages.

FMC is expensive, but for good reason IMO.
if you're paying for it, then pay for the best.

Sounds about right price wise to me - I'm not sure you'll find a cheaper price as it needs to be done by a fully trained professional.

I couldn't find much difference in the prices... and ended up at the FMC and it is definitely worth every penny.

I went to the FMC for a viability scan at 10wks and was really impressed by the centre. The Birth Company (again on harley street) does the combined test for £180 so I guess in London anyway, £150 is pretty good (but haven't looked elsewhere!) Will be going to the birth company for the 4d scan and dvd at 26-32wks though, all being well!

The price is good. One have to take into the account the fact that it is not just a scan but also a blood test.

Your friend might get the combined tests; bloods, nuchal and 12 weeks scan on the NHS, I did. Worth checking at her booking in appt.

Indeed...NHS may offer scan and blood testing.

I would recommend FMC though, especially for nuchal testing etc, as it was the chap from the FMC that was part of developing the testing procedure and setting the standards for everyone else, from what I can glean, so you should be in good hand.

Also, I was scanned at FMC for about 40 minutes, she looked at everything...blood flow through various points, hb etc, switched to 3D for abit, the works. My NHS scan took about 2 minutes, and she did not check blood flow or HB because they 'don't do that' at 12 weeks...WTF?

the guy at the FMC is the best.. look him up. people fly in from abroad to be scannd by him.

Yes, another huge thumbs up to the FMC. For various reasons I wanted a reassuring scan and I was told about FMC and Professor Nikolaides (sp?). They were superb at 12 and 20 week. I felt really comfortable, reassured and in good hands. To be honest, the peace of mind is cheap at £150 - well, for me. They train the best sonographers in the UK - perhaps globally.

And an added bonus - the doctor who did the 20 week scan was very nice to look at
