Pregnancy

bit of weird question...

Hi, Im 18 weeks pregnant and have for the past three weeks have noticed that my underwear is slightly damp - like I have sneezed and a bit of wee has came out . It smells of urine and I am changing my underwear around 2/3 times a day to feel comfortable.

Seeing my midwife next week - this is my first pregnancy so dont know if this is something I should be worrying about.

Help!

It could be your growing uterus putting pressure on your bladder making you leak a little bit.

Try doing pelvic floor exercises whenever you can remember to do so, you will be grateful later on and after your baby is born if you do them now.

Deffo mention it to your midwife though, just to be sure.

Congrats on your pregnancy BTW

Look at the thread which is called something along the lines of "embarrassing things which have happened to you when pregnant". It is FULL of stories from ladies who have weed themselves, either a bit or a lot whilst pregnant. Its an incredibly common problem. If it has started this early then you must do your pelvic floors as much as you possibly can - you are obviously really prone to urinary incontinence

Thanks Ballpoint after four miscarriages we feel like it is a miracle baby!

Had a Google there and it seems quite common - just had a panic this afternoon that it maybe amniotic fluid and I have been a bit blasé about it.

Doing pelvic floor as I type - thank you for reminding me

Thanks addie81 for your response - your last comment made me think I should borrow some of my 90 year old Granny's Tenalady

I'm sure it won't come to that! particularly if you are diligent with your pelvic floor exercises. Good luck.

Hello

This is just a watchout in case it's not just the usual leaky bladder problem...

When I was 38 weeks pregnant, I had the same experience - my pants were damp & I felt like I'd wet myself (sorry to be graphic) and I though it was my poor squished bladder

Luckily, I was booked in for a scan a few days later and they found that I'd developed placental insufficiency (where some of the amniotic fluid from the placenta starts to leak out). All was fine & my baby was fine, but the docs did need to address the problem.

Therefore, if you have any concerns, I'd suggest you go to see your GP rather than waiting for your midwife appointment. Sorry if I'm being a scaremonger - just want to make sure you & baby are okay!

Thank you PMAC for your story

No, you are not being graphic. Can I ask if it was just the scan that picked it up or did you have any other tests, internals etc

Good to hear you are both well.

Many thanks

Hello

I only had a scan, no other tests. They measure the level of amniotic fluid during the scan and realised that it was lower than it should have been

Best of luck with it all

Let us know how you get on
