OK, so have been potty training for a week (ds 2.9). All going well with wees- asks for potty, 3 days of no accidents. BUT we are starting to get a problem with poo- he knows he wants to go, asks to do wee/poo, sits for wee but gets up again. Then asks again, but doesn't sit still, or hops around getting increasingly upset, sort of holding it in. Twice has worked himself into a state, gone a bit in pants tried to do it standing up etc. It's like he fears actualy doing it on potty (or loo- have tried both). He is not constipated (defo not) and we have always been uber relaxed about poo- never ever called it yuck or anything. He has had washable nappies so I have been flciking the stuff down the loo for years, let hime see it/watched when asked. It may be that the poo is yuk thing has come from kids at childminders though. BUT either way don't want this to turn into a thing.
What the hell do I do? So far remaining very calm and supportive and saying its ok, but this does not seem to be helping. He doesn't want to go in pants (or nappies have offered) and knows when he wants to go......

We had this problem. dt1 would jsut do it in his pants.

At first we ignored it, but it jsut carried on, and it got to the point where I was fed up with the poo in his pants. So we would take him up, shower him and send him to his room and he would get a telling off.

Meanwhile we made up a story about spongebob who lives under the sea and was waiting for dt1's poo to come so he could bury it! Each time he didn't do it in the loo, spongebob would be incredibly disappointed. When he did finally manage it, we waved goodbye to the poo and spongebob was estatic. Dt1 is 4.5 now and still sometimes shouts goodbye poos!

My niece was scared of poos in the potty too. I bought her a book about a spotty potty which was all about doing magic tricks and the last page the magic trick worked and there was poo in the potty! I don't know if it's still out there (it was about 6 years ago) but it did help so maybe look for books?

Like the Spongebob trick too!

I wouldn't do what ChopstheDuck did and give him a telling off! That is horrible. The spongebob bit is good though, you could try that if he knows who spongebob is?

Many boys have this problem, don't make it into a big deal.

DS was like this, he never ever did a poo in a potty but he did start doing them in the loo. Just be patient

We had similar for a couple of days. My daughter made me take her to the toilet upstairs every time she thought she wanted a poo, most of the time was wind, so ended up running up and down the stairs 20 times in two hours!
She has Thomas the Tank Engine potty so I told her that Thomas is a bit lonely and a bit sad that she doesn't do a poo there so might make him feel better if she does it there. Weird I know but it worked. Every time she does it in the potty she says there you go Thomas , don't be sad any more. Tee hee hee

right it has gotten much worse. Hysterical and shaking when he knows he needs to go, doesn't really want to sit, but doesn't want to soil his pants. Today back in nappies as scared at how scared he is- no help. Wants to wee in potty still uterly upset about doing poo (even in nappy). WHAT the hell to do now (call in a psychologist?)
