Potty training

Is it laziness?

My Daughter (3y, 5m) has been using knickers & has been completely dry during the day for 4 months. She still uses nappies for bedtime (she hasn't had a dry night yet) which is fine.

However, when we're getting her ready for bed at night, after putting the night time nappy on she appears to completely forget about using the toilet & just does everything in her nappy, even down to blatantly doing a poo whilst she's watching in the night garden before bed. We even ask her "do you need the toilet" and she says no (mid squeeze) (sorry for TMI)

We've left the nappy off until the last minute & prompted the toilet but she doesnt appear interested, then we we go to bed hours later shes heavily soiled (sometimes poo, but always lots of wee).

I'm wondering if its laziness or if im missing something.

The reason why im questioning whether it is because last week there was one incidence this where i forgot to put a nappy on & left her in bed. About 3/4 hours later she woke herself up & shouted down to me saying that she had no nappy on & needed a wee!

Get a plastic sheet on her bed and try bedtime without nappies now.

It's a bit scary I know but with a mattress protector it will be fine. Just keep a store of clean PJs and bedding near her bed to make changing easier if she has an accident.

I find it odd that she's pooing at night tbh. Don't most kids do that in the day? What time is she having her last meal? And what time is bed?

I think nappies at night time are confusing for them. I bought puppy piddle pads and put one under the sheet in case of accident.

However if you know not to let them have too much to drink after eating evening meal, and use toilet before bed and first thing in the morning you should be fine.

We put nappies on the door step and waved bye to them. The next morning there was a small gift from nappy fairy. We made a huge deal out of saying bye bye, I’m a big kid etc etc

If you kinda want them to poo in the day time instead of evening before bed, I used a small portion of movicol kids to get a poo out. Then they can reset their poo schedule.

Sounds like she’s ready to move on from having nappies.

Drynights do a disposable top sheet that will keep the bed dry.

Some children like the convenience of a nappy. I read that from an expert in another thread.
