Wees yes, poos no

DD is 2.5. We started potty training at 2.3, when she had been dry at night herself a few times so we gave it a go, and by the end of the week she was completely dry during the day and getting most of her poos in the potty.

Fast forward a couple of months and the wees are brilliant, no accidents for weeks, and dry at night most of the time. She’ll say ‘I need a wee!’ or just take herself to the potty.

But poos are now mostly ending up in her pants. She goes every other day in the mornings (so I watch her like a hawk), she knows where the potty is, and yet I look at her, she’s got her ‘poo face’ on, and it’s too late. She’s not constipated or loose.

Is there anything I can try or is it just a case of riding it out and keeping the potty within arms reach?

I don't have any advice but just wanted to say I could have written your post word for word! The situation is driving us nuts!

Have you seen the poo goes to poo land app? My little boy is obsessed with it and it always gives him a little reminder of what he is supposed to be doing. When you know she is due a poo could you get her to try and do a little push when shes doing her pee closest to that time? We have never had a poo accident so far (4 weeks in) but I do catch most of them that way, if I let him guide me he tells me a lot later that I would like! We had a mad dash from the swimming pool this week and he just got to the toilet and no more.

Well it's handy that she goes at roughly the same time! Could you say 'lets sit on the potty for a bit and read a story' when you're expecting it? Might just take that bit longer for her to be independent with poos

Just came on here to post this exact question! Any update @jammytoastplease or @havannaoohnana? 5 weeks in here, and 95% of wees are in the toilet (she didn’t like the potty but that’s fine) but every day I’m scraping poo from knickers and clothes, wrestling off pooey pants in public toilets (with my 16 month old trying to touch everything as well) and it’s driving me mad!! Timings are totally unpredictable and however long she sits with books, nothing ever happens! Please help??

@salema I took DD to the doctors and they prescribed movicol, just one sachet a day to make things softer. This seems to have worked a little and the last 3 poos have been on the potty. I've had to put her on there myself however, as she still stands there screaming. So she's still scared but there's a little progress. The doctor gave me a months worth.

@havannaoohnana thanks for the reply. That sounds like progress even though it must be stressful. I’ve contacted health visitor for advice. She said not to go back to nappies, although it’s tempting!
