My son is 2 years 7 months. I decided to try potty training this weekend as it’s the bank holiday weekend and I have more days to give it a go.
We started yesterday with no clothes on bottom half. We had 3 wees and a poo on the floor within the first hour and a half. I asked him to go to the potty, and the last time he did but wouldn’t sit down.
He went in a nappy for his nap but then later had an accident - I took him to the toilet instead of the potty and he had a wee! So we had lots of praise and he was very pleased.
Day two (today) he’s had two wees on the floor and 2 in the toilet. Both toilet trips were prompted by me. He had a wee at 10:15 and then I took him outside to play. He didn’t have any accidents, I brought him in at 11:30 to see if he needed to go and he didn’t. He had lunch and I tried again at 12:30, and he was starting to say no to going to have a wee and would take the potty seat off the toilet when we walked into the bathroom. I tried him again at 1 because he was going for a nap, and still no wee. He had had a lot to drink as he’d had both a snack and his lunch in that time.
I don’t know if it’s too soon. When he wets himself he stops and looks down but makes no move towards the toilet/potty. I’ve been waiting an hour between toilet tries so that he doesn’t feel overwhelmed. And I’ve told him it’s toilet time rather than asking but he still says no.
